I really enjoy nonfiction. I don’t read a ton of historical nonfiction but this had been recommended to me many times so I was glad to borrow an audiobook from the library. I learned a lot - it’s a truly horrifying tale. However, I disliked the writing style which made it feel more like a work of fiction, the way the stories of the characters were told. It was also incredibly drawn out and very repetitive. I felt like I was going to DNF a few times but pushed through because I still didn’t want to miss something that might be new. Overall great story, poor execution.

Radium Girls- 5⭐️-every time I read something new about this subject I get more angry for these girls or people who trusted the people behind this phenomenon because it’s STILL HAPPENING!!! Trust the science they say- yet there are still medications out there harming and poisoning people! Why? Because people behind the “science” have monetary stake in it and want the money and don’t give a poop about the people or the “science”.

DID NOT FINISH: 44%

The book was quite graphic. Some of this was certainly needed to illustrate the horror of radium poisoning and the women at the heart of the case but I felt that it did not need to be covered repeatedly. It was also difficult to stay engaged after hours of court proceedings. I think a different narrator could have also helped (the pace was rather slow)

This book was enlightening AF. It is jarring to see how far we have come in 100 years and still have far we have to go in the way of women and the workforce. I don't usually read non-fic, but this had an actual story line and read like a narrative.
I would definitely recommend this book as it was a fascinating read and edifying!
