If you told me after the first Savage River book that I would want Elena’s story and for her to have a happy ending of her own I would never have believed you. Do I think every one of her previous misdeeds are okay, nope, but man do I fully understand now how and why she came to be that way and why she did some of the things she did. That is the power of a good story teller and well crafted characters. Over the course of the series JW has taken a character I hated and made me love her in all her prickly, bitchy, pink bat wielding glory. She was strong, smart, ambitious, beautiful, vulnerable, ugly, mean, rude and messy and I loved her for every bit of it.

Elena and Lachlan were everything I hoped they would be. Loved them together even if they were silly fools thinking they could do light and easy. Lachlan was a wonderful, taciturn, protective, supportive teddy bear and frustrating dummy. There were so many moments where his actions were perfect but then his words would just fall completely short of the mark or at odds with how he was behaving/ reacting to Elena. I loved him and was just willing him to get it together and have those two things (actions plus words) sync up. It took him a while but oh when he got it right he got it right. Lots of heat

Spoiler** this was like a 4.5* read for me right up until the 3rd act conflict. And then when lochlan started like “forcing” him n elena back together it kinda got on my nerves. She forgave him too quickly imo.

What can I say? I LOVE the broken ones lol, it just makes it so much more satisfying when they have to work for it, and this author always ALWAYS makes her characters work for it!
Elena! For anyone who met her in the previous Savage U books (not that you have to, total stand alone, but even if your starting here, you WILL want to read the other couples as well!) I didn't like her, she grew on me as she got older and started figuring out how to grow and be her own person (instead of a cookie cutter cheerleader type) I have wanted her to end up with a good guy... Enter Lock. Totally not a rich snob, blue collar salt of the earth, not her type AT ALL, but WOW the fireworks! I love these two, as b@da$$ as Elena is, she doesn't NEED a man to swoop in and take care of things, she has it handled, which is great because Lock isn't here for long, they want different things so they decide to keep it light no commitments... Yeah, when has that worked out in the history of ever? LOL when things go sideways, as things often do, these two shine. Elena will keep you laughing with her attitude and snark, Lock will keep you fanning yourself, and together they will keep you turning the pages because I mean COME ON, they HAVE to figure it out. For two people who are bound and determined to do what they want and think they have it all figured out, it was great to watch them figure out why people often say, 'the heart wants what it wants'! Bravo, another fantastic ending, but I NEED Julien's story!!!
