This book was ok. I wouldn't be desperate to read the next one... the story was good and original, a classic murder mystery style. The murderer was quite a surprise and the plot took an unexpected turn!
Even I didn't see it coming :0 This book wasn't bad, just I have slightly better things to read...... ;)

The kind of book I would have loved to read when I was about 10 or 11.

Book 1 of the Murder Most Unladylike series
Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong attend Deepdean School for girls where they are the founding (and only) members of a secret detective agency. Their first case was the case of Lavinia’s missing tie which wasn’t all too exciting but now they have their first big mystery to solve. Hazel discovers Miss Bell’s body in the school gym, she goes to get help and when she returns the body is gone. Now Hazel and Daisy must use their detective skills to solve a murder and prove that it actually happened in the first place.
My thoughts: Recommended reading age 8-12 years.
This book belongs to my 12 year old daughter so we thought we’d read it together. This is a great cosy mystery without any gore or graphic details. The chapters are short and snappy and the pace moves quickly so that younger children will remain intrigued. We did identify the murderer before the end of the book but there were a few twists we didn’t see coming. We didn’t like Daisy at all but we really liked Hazel and we were both rooting for her throughout the story. We look forward to reading more of this series in the future.
Real rating: 3.5 stars
As far as mysteries go, this was a good one. I really liked the Watsonesque character of Hazel, but I thought Daisy, as well as most of the other girls, were TOTAL JERKS. I mean, I can kind of get Daisy, as she was supposed to be the Sherlock character, but everyone else? I could have done without some of the meanness.

Read it for my 2 kids who absolutely loved it. My daughter is now creating a detective society with her friend, but here's hoping she doesn't find any dead teachers!
