Extremely entertaining and clever. Only gave 3 stars because of the title story "welcome to the monkey house," as a feminist and a human, I hate this one. I get that he is a satirical writer, but considering that the story was first published in playboy, I think its safe to assume he fucked up with that one.

Haven't read this book in many years.  When I ran the store, I had a wine salesman, who had a master's degree in history.  He didn't want to do his dissertation and he didn't want to teach high school history...so he was a wine salesman.  At any rate, he turned me on to Kurt Vonnegut Jr. with this book all those years ago and I thank him for it!  This is all short stories and my favorites are Welcome to the Monkey House, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, Tom Edison's Shaggy Dog and Deer in the works.  Such good story telling and so funny (scary) how some of this fiction has come to pass.  So it goes...

OO OO AH AH

These short stories have a range of topics that make you think about everyday life and some experiences that we may not be privy to in our own life. There are a few about sales people, others about lovers, one about an orphanage etc. Eight of the stories really stood out far from the rest: Harrison Bergeron, Who Am I This Time?, The Foster Portfolio, D.P., Deer In The Works, The Kid Nobody Could Handle, The Manned Missiles, and EPICAC. I could read these ones over and over. When something was funny I had a good laugh. When something was emotional it touched my heart. You know a fictional story is a good one if it can make you feel something real.

Report on The Barnhouse Effect, The Euphio Question, and Unready To Wear give the reader something science fictional to think about.

This volume of Vonnegut's short stories contains one of his best known, "Harrison Bergeron," but many of the others are well worth a read. I went on a bender and read most of his books available to me in the library in the mid/late 1980s.

These shorts are the shiz, enough said.
