Mempelai Sang Penakluk Gurun Woman in a Sheikh's World by Sarah Morgan

A good solid read that bucks the opinion (held by some) that all Presents must feature dishrag heroines and jerk-wad Alpha Neanderthals. Successful heroine who runs her own party planning business must plan a wedding celebration party for the hero, a sheikh, and a man she had a year-long hot and heavy affair with - of course until it all went spectacularly wrong. Well now his intended bride has run off, and the heroine agrees to travel the desert with the hero looking for her - because a married hero is certainly going to be easier to get over than a single, hunky, and still available hero that she can't quite seem to get out of her mind.

A fiercely independent heroine with baggage and a decisive hero whose decisiveness can sometimes be misconstrued as "controlling." The author smartly peels the conflict back slowly, milking it for maximum effect.

3.5 Stars. The "big secret" about the heroines father was sort of silly, and I had guessed it pretty easily, actually. Also, the Hero and Heroine were frustrating to me. Any time the main characters biggest issue is that they never talked to one another I get annoyed. Seriously, how hard is it to talk?

I am a fan of Sarah Morgan's books, but I found this one to be extremely frustrating. Often times, HP presents heroines are secretaries and incredibly naive virgins (unrealistic, but expected). I enjoy the usual HP tropes just as much as anyone but I also love heroines that dare to be different. Avery is different but not better and it's a shame that Sarah Morgan didn't push the character development further into a more nuanced person. Instead, Avery is so messed up that it's a mystery why Mal even bothered. (The answer being...because of love, of course. But if Mal had given up on Avery, I wouldn't have held it against him.)

Avery and Mal spend almost the entire book arguing and talking in circles and hurting each other because of Avery's problems. I like the HP Presents line because it's a form of escapism with romance and European locales and lifestyles of the rich and famous. This book was like getting stuck in a car with a very dysfunctional couple and not being able to get out.

This was really a 3.5 for me. It would have been four if Avery didn't frustrate me. I felt that she hung on to her pain for way too long and just wanted her to be honest with Mal. But then, if she was, we wouldn't have a story, so...I guess that's a double edged sword. I loved Mal though and what he was hiding I didn't think was that big of a deal. And I totally understood why he didn't tell her because she would have used it as a shield. The one thing this book did do, was make me want to find more sheikh books. :) And now, on to the next book in the TBR pile!

Not too special, IMHO.

I was very, very, very pleasantly surprised by this book. The hero ended up giving some of the best relationship advice I've ever seen. I don't just mean in a romance novel. When I see a book with the word "sheikh" in the title, I tend to expect something amusing because it is a genre that is chockfull of tropes that make me laugh. This book took them, turned them sidewise, and created an excellent story that contained REAL problems. I'm impressed. I clearly need to read more of this author's work.

A superficial albeit diverting read. Avery drove me nuts a good 70% of the time. Mal was handsome but I felt he lacked personality at times. It was too much like a stock hero for me.
