A good lesson in "Maybe you don't know what you *actually* want"

I love Mo Willems and his Pigeon books. (And Elephant and Piggie books, and Knuffle Bunny books...) This year I read it to my kindergartners, along with a nonfiction book on puppies, and then we discussed the author's purpose in writing each book.

Funny but not as good a the elephant and piggie books

This was cute. A little odd, but funny enough to make up for it.

Sometimes you just don't know what you are asking for. This is the case of pigeon who really wants a puppy. Unfortunately, when it comes he wants a walrus instead.

Pigeon has a lot of wants, as the opening illustration on the title page shows. But in this edition of the series, Pigeon really, really wants a puppy. He goes through the usual pleas and bargaining (my favorites are his sarcastic, backwards logic quips). In the end, the silly bird discovers that a dog is a BIG undertaking, and moves on to other ideas. Cute, as always, but lacking a little something that the other Pigeon books have in spades.

Laugh out loud funny tbh

Ethan always laughs at the part where the pigeon meets the puppy. He even makes the "Aaaaiiiiiggggghhhh!" sound.

Not as funny as Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog, but still good.
