The Pigeon wants a puppy and he is willing to do just about anything to get one. That is... until he meets a puppy.

Simple and easy to read, I love Pigeon books for my kindergartners and emerging readers. They have just enough humor to keep them interesting, and the simple pictures are just the right size for the bite-size text.

Nothing particularly wrong with the book in my opinion. I just don't find it as clever as Drive the Bus or Stay Up Late.

A wonderful, refreshingly unusual picture book for preschool-aged children, this first of the "Pigeon books" starts a series of great, participation-encouraging read aloud picture books by the witty, indomitable [a:Mo Willems|33274|Mo Willems|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1199684071p2/33274.jpg]. This Pigeon, much like the headstrong young children reading the book, will try anything to get what he wants at the moment--and right now, all he wants to have a cute little puppy. But don't let him!

The expressions Pigeon have throughout this book are great. Willems' art is very expressive while being deceptively simple.

This one was fairly predictable, so wasn't as funny as the others. Still great to add to the collection!

Cute little book that a little girl and I read together today. It was pretty adorable and fun because the Pigeon thinks you can treat the puppy like a plant. Then it meets an actual puppy and realizes some hard truths.

I love [a:Mo Willems|33274|Mo Willems|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1199684071p2/33274.jpg] adorable illustrations. The text is simple, but very engaging as well. All of the Pigeon books are such fun to read!

In fall 2007, Mo Willems ran a contest for children to name the newest Pigeon book. The resulting book is The Pigeon Wants a Puppy. So from hot dogs to dogs.

In this book the Pigeon teaches the important lesson of "be careful what you wish for." Usually the pigeon books focus on him not getting what he wants. Not this time. The pigeon wants a puppy and the pigeon gets a puppy.

Now just stop for a moment and think about this because the Pigeon certainly didn't. The Pigeon is well, pigeon sized. The puppy is puppy sized. See the problem? Mo Willems did and outlines the results in hilarious illustrations.

On a personal note, the Pigeon's reaction to the puppy reminds me of Harriet and Wally dog. Wally is my in-law's Bouvier de Flanders. Bouviers are honking big dogs. Harriet is two. She's roughly three feet tall. The dog is about a foot and a half taller than she is. She is as overwhelmed with him as the Pigeon is with his wish come true.
