Having seen the movie when it came out on DVD in 2008/2009 I thought the movie was cute and finding out that it was a book, I decided to give it go and it was okay.

what a lovely little story. one of my best core memories is of my third grade teacher reading this to my class :’) I forgot how devastating Miggery Sow’s story is and how beautiful Despereaux’s heart is. it’s so lovely to revisit stories like these and find details and messages that you had forgotten. i’m so happy I chose to re-read this one!

Cute for a kids' book. A little dark, a little long for a read-aloud, which is how I used it. Took us three weeks to read. Good story though, looking forward to seeing the movie
