I re-"read" this right after watching the new MCU Eternals, in its motion comic format, and was really disappointed in the Gaiman/Romita version. It's modernized at least from the much-harder-to-get-through original Kirby series, but plenty of problematic trash is present. Druig in particular is made into a horrific Russian mob-esque villain.

This is a good setup if they wanted to establish multiple comic series surrounding the Eternals. There's an urgent task given to Ikaris at the end and a lingering task for the people on Earth. Some parts seems not transitioned well; not sure if there are companion or tie-in series.
The mortality/immortality dilemma of Sprite should have been given much attention because it's unusual and interesting. Most of the time the conflict is caused by a villain wanting to gain immortality. I need to know though if Sprite's dead or he reactivated.
The covers are very Neil Gaiman and the illustration are beautifully full in color.

If you are up for character centered comics, this is for you. If you prefer some clearer conflicts, then better pass on this one.

This review is coming from a reader who hasn’t been acquainted with The Eternals, its concept, characters and plot. I just chose to read this after enjoying Gaiman’s “Marvels 1602,” his medieval rendering of the heroes. It is probably the characters in this book that I did not find compelling.
The plot is stilted and unbelievable (I mean, you know, for a fantasy fiction). I was impressed by the concept and imagination though, but that it took me more than a month to finish this means I wasn’t looking forward to keep on turning the page or picking it up.

Try this out if you’re a fan of Gaiman’s graphic novel portfolio just to tick it off the list.
