Cosy and witty. Might drag a bit at times but a very enjoyable read!
The back cover spoils an event that happens around Page 400 so that was a bit annoying!

I can hardly slate this book as I read it specifically seeking the least offensive light holiday relief reading possible. I adore Marian Keyes so who am I to deny her an evolving writing process? That it apparently began far too chronologically near the era of Bridget Jones's Diary is not actually a crime. (I'm such a snob.) Not sure if BJ had so many laborious digressions in the midst of vital plot action, but hey, I'd doubtless be as guilty as the next novice novelist to do such things and oh yeah, where's the novel I've written?
Until recently, however, I still thought the 90s were great. This novel reminds me that they were clearly of the last century in big ways. But I am looking forward to reading more easy, diverting, hopefully increasingly less offensive bits of fiction. And continuing to respect Marian Keyes down to the ground.

Oh Dear. I needed some more feel-good but thought this was absolute pants. So immature and quite annoying. I've read her two newest so she clearly gets better but at what point? Apparently Rachel's Holiday is great but this now has me worried. Only gave it to the half-way point.
Revised, went back (because I still have Covid) and needed something light so read the second half. Much better than the first but still not great. Going back to Booker books after this.

I loved this. It's not "great" literature and doesn't cover "deeper" topics like some of the other Marian Keyes books I've read ([b: The Mystery of Mercy Close|12724978|The Mystery of Mercy Close (Walsh Family, #5)|Marian Keyes|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1340719307s/12724978.jpg|17861299] and [b: Last Chance Saloon|9298|Last Chance Saloon|Marian Keyes|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1407708818s/9298.jpg|510806]). Claire is generally well adjusted, just a little mystified by the turn her life has taken. I suppose she is a little selfish. But whatever, I liked her anyway. She's hilarious. IMO, great chick-lit.
DNF. Was already not enjoying this book by the time I abandoned it at page 82. Jokes about suicide, complete lack of any kind of female empowerment, feeling jealous of women with anorexia etc and just all-round pretty boring. Not for me, unfortunately.
I loved this! She definitely improved as a writer but I still loved this re-read after so many hundreds of years!
