This book is so good! I loved the characters. The development of Emme through the story is so good. She makes mistakes. Learns from them. Tries to correct them. Doing all that while trying to maintain her life in present time, and her duty to travel through time as the Librarian.
Absolutely love this book. It was so well written. I lived the time travel and the story was so well written and intriguing. I cannot wait to read the next.
3.5 - It took me a little while to fully understand the job of the librarians but i completely loved the concept. Ultimately this definitely feels like a story about growing up and Emme had a lot of realizations to come to in order to fix immature mistakes she made. I really enjoyed how it all played out in the end though.

I listened to this book twice because I did not remember the first time I did. And I still did not like the main character. The plot and the summary was so good, but I just did not find any empathy or love for Emmy. She was annoying, self- centered and immature. Doing what she did in the end, did make me feel a bit better; but I felt bad for Jack and hated how she replaced him so easily while he struggled so hard. I understand her reasons, but she was too shallow. I hope the next book is better.
The premise of this book is good. Very good. I loved the fact the main character can travel through time via books, and the consideration towards the morals and constraints of this was very fun and engaging.
However, I couldn't get past the characters, especially Emme. She was utterly insufferable and not well realised - shallow and insipid, and so boring. She didn't seem like a real young woman and because she was carrying the story, it totally fell down for me. The relationships and friendships never felt genuine because of this - we were being told, not shown, and because she was so beige I wasn't committed to any of them.
There was also the matter of the sex writing - it's better to omit it than to rely on odd phrases such as "when we stopped loving each other". There's no need to be coy.
There's a lot of potential here, but I had to force myself through. Unfortunately disappointing.

and that's how you break my heart!
I really enjoyed this book, even though I admit that I might have been waiting for more. But, just like Emme, I let myself be completely swallowed by the book.

Did not finish. The premise was interesting and I wish the author had taken a different tack on the story. I hated the proportion of the book devoted to "he's so hot!" Ugh.

The only reason this book got a 1 star and not zero is because the concept is good. A girl loses her grandmother and inherits family library where she discovers she can time travel through books. Sounds great. Could have been great. Sadly it doesn’t deliver.
Immature heroine that reads like she was written by a 15 year old who is trying to sound like an adult. Insta love that makes no real sense - why would a 19th century gentleman fall for this very stereotypical 21st century sorority girl who talks to him about yoga pants? None of these characters are particularly believable and the fmc is just unlikable because she is so unrealistically immature and makes bizarre decisions like asking a stranger to live with her.

The writing could be improved. The characters are superficial and insipid. The narrator is okay but doesn't elevate the story. So even though it's a time travel romance, I'm stopping now.
