This was such a fun retelling of Persephone and Hades.  Futuristic, a different portrayal of gods and mortals.  A hastily made bet at a nightclub leads Persephone to her fate and Hades bed, and heart.

This was an easy and enjoyable read.  There was nothing difficult about it.  Though Persephone was a bit obstinate and thick headed a bit too often for my tastes.

Predictable story line. Unique characters, but too predictable

I love Hades and Persephone, and this retelling quickly became one of my favorites. Scarlett St. Clair reimagines Persephone as a young goddess trying to find her place in the mortal world. She is living in disguise, hiding her powers, and struggling to control her magic. When she meets Hades, the dark and magnetic God of the Dead, everything changes.

The story pulls you right into their push and pull relationship. Persephone is torn between fear of who Hades is and fascination with who he is beneath the surface. The way their romance develops feels both forbidden and inevitable, and the tension between them makes it impossible to stop reading.

What I loved most was how unique this retelling felt. It combines mythology with a modern edge, giving the characters more depth and complexity. It is not just about their romance, but also about power, identity, and what it means to truly live.

This book was such a fun escape, full of passion, mythology, and spice. I absolutely loved it and cannot wait to keep going with the series.

This was such a fun book! I really wish that there was more time spent on the plot and less time on the smut - I was very interested in the internship, Persephone developing her magic, and her contract with Hades. It felt like 80% of the contract was skipped in favor of having more smut in the book. I also wish there would have been more time spent on Persephone and Demeter's relationship.

So I did binge this audiobook in less than two days, buuut I think I can only classify it as a guilty pleasure read. I love urban fantasy and Greek mythology, but the world building was pretty minimal and it’s plot points are sometimes repetitively made. Persephone either contradicts herself and her own feelings 10 pages later, or gets over her own anger ridiculously fast. I also don’t really love the purity culture influences here. BUT it was fun and had me in chokehold, so I have also immediately started book 2. Make of that what you will 🤷‍♀️ Also just know that it’s verryy spicy 🌶️

I am torn. On the one hand, I thought the world building was interesting. Gods being akin to celebrities and owning a bunch of businesses is a promising idea. But there were several sentences I read that were awkward and clunky, and more weird grammatical stuff. Not sure if this was self published or not, but it could have benefited from a few more rounds of editing. I liked the idea that Hades wasn’t as evil as everyone thought and I liked this depiction of the Underworld as being more of a peaceful existence. I’m not sure if I will read the second one. This felt like a lot of telling and not showing.

DID NOT FINISH

DNF. Couldn’t get into it because the writing was so bad and nothing was actually happening for sooooo long(and not in a slow burn way, genuinely nothing was happening. I felt I was just getting a play by play of daily mundane things)

I just don’t think it’s my type. Not bad though.
