This beautiful anthology of mythical creatures features beasts from all over the world, giving an easy-to-read overview and stunning picture of each. Some are even accompanied by short stories that provide even more insight as to the creature's magic and why they're worshiped or feared.
I loved reading this book, and I thought the pictures were absolutely gorgeous. Good Wives and Warriors has published a number of colouring books that I now plan on exploring since I really appreciated the art style in this. The writing style throughout - in both descriptions and stories - was simple and easy to understand yet also very beautiful in a fairytale-esque sort of way. The way this book is laid out also enhanced my enjoyment as the beasts are grouped by the continent they originate from. It has definitely expanded my knowledge of mythology, adding little bits of information to the creatures I already knew about, and adding ones I'd never even heard of.
Something that could have made me love this book even more is if there were more 'magical tales', as most of the creatures were only given a description, and I would have liked to know more, but other than that I think it did everything right.
My favourite spreads from this book were the ones on Fenrir, from Norse Mythology, and the Kurage-No-Hinotama from Japanese folklore as I thought they were incredibly beautiful.
I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Mythology, from all age categories. This is written for children but can be enjoyed by people of all ages - my Dad loved it too. I find it very difficult to give anthologies 5 stars, but I did adore this book and would encourage anyone interested enough to have read this review to pick it up.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for giving me this book to review in exchange for an honest review.

Firstly, this book is gorgeous. I already have it on my wishlist for when it is available. I can't wait to see this in hand, because I'm sure that the pictures I thought were stunning on my tablet will be incredible in actual print.

I adore that this book is by continent and that there is a contents page as this made it easy for me to read it fully the first time through and then skip around a second time to look at the pictures and to ensure I had remembered a few details correctly.

I love how wide this range of mythologies are and how varied the creatures within are.

I'm sure children and mythology loving adults alike will appreciate this master piece.

Mythopedia is a brilliantly illustrated encyclopedia of mythical beasts and fantastical creatures from around the world. The beautiful cover pulled me in from the moment I laid my eyes on it. The book is well researched and filled with enlightening information regarding various beasts and creatures often heard in lores. It was an absolute delight to read this book and a visual feast as well. I was awed by the vivid details added to the beautiful art in this book. The bright colors, the imagery this book presents is breathtaking!!

While this book is geared for Middle Grade I do believe this will be equally liked by age groups higher than that as well. This is for everyone who loves mythology, mythical and fantastical beasts that inhabit different countries based on their culture. You will be able to learn more about the origins of some of the well known fantastical creatures along with amazing illustrations. It is also a short read and quick to get through. I gave this book 5 stars and enjoyed it immensely. Highly recommend checking this out.

Mythopedia is a gorgeously illustrated, accessible adventure across folklore and traditional storytelling of many cultures and peoples of the world. The illustrations are detailed, colorful, and eye-catching, spread out over many pages or as little, delightful details to the longer stories within.

When approaching folklore and stories of other cultures, especially those often appropriated and marginalized, it is important to do so with care and respect. These stories about ancient creatures and beings do not ever label their tellers and believers as savage, uneducated, or primitive. They are treated with both wonder and appreciation, making sure to explain that there are many versions of the stories. Mythopedia enables its readers, especially younger ones, to not create monoliths of any one culture and its traditions.

These all appear to be well-researched and honestly told; if there is no conclusive ending to be found, no ending is made up which is crucial in all kinds of stories. There is, as always with these kinds of books, concerns about telling other people's stories via outsider tongues and hands, and trampling on sacred stories that should not be shared with outsiders. I am hopeful that since everything else in this book has been so kind that these ideas were also taken into consideration.

This book is truly stunning. The art is still in black and white so I’m super excited to see it in full color when it gets released.
The stories were also really interesting, and I knew only a few beforehand. I appreciate that they included mythical creatures from all continents as we are usually only used to hear about the European mythical creatures, especially from Ancient Greek/Rome.

Very pretty book and a good handful of myths I was unfamiliar with. There were 37 stories and almost half had an extra 2 page story along with the basic info on the mythical creature.

Mythopedia is an encyclopedia of mythical beasts and their legends. The book features the beasts and legends of the Americas, Europe, Asia and more.

The gorgeous illustrations are the highlight of this book -- if only the illustrations were full page ones...

As you read through the book, you are drawn into the legends and the detailed descriptions of each creature.

Mythopedia will make a wonderful coffee table addition as well as a great reference book for your 7 to 11 year old.

Overall, 4.5 stars rounded up. Thank you Edelweiss for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book is wonderful.
The art work is amazing, it is bright, and colourful and I love the style of it so much.

I love learning about different mythologies and this book has a wonderful mix of short explanations of different figures in mythology and tales and stories of the mythology.

I now want a longer book for each of the different continents, so that it can have even more stories and expand further on the different tales.

I feel like each page could be put up on the wall as a piece of art it's so beautiful, and I will be obtaining a copy of this book so that I can put it on my shelves.

Though it is targeted as a children's middle grade book, I think this would a be a good starting point for all ages that want to learn more about different mythologies across the globe.
