The story and the plot twists are real. Good. The names of the places and organizations are a bit complicated. But after some time one get used to it.
3.7/5
not as bad as litbase followers's reviews bcs i found it pretty enjoyable and kinda fun. despite the bad translation (the translation kinda clumsy and awkward tbh) the story line was impressive. and yes people keep roasting this book for its romance scenes BUT to me it's still acceptable, for it's basically a YA book. the romance part didn't bother me much so i think this book still okay to be read by fantasy book readers.

I enjoyed this book a decent amount, but its definitely flawed, and I felt I had to slog through some parts even though its really not that long. While it had been on my TBR for a while, I thought I would probably never get to it, but the special collectors edition was on sale for $8 at the Indigo near my house, so it felt like destiny.
The characters are likeable enough, but I found Alina's choices and logic pretty grating at points. I felt the Darkling was really well established, despite having a constant air of mystery around him.I knew about the twist of him actually being evil going into the book because I'd watched the first season of the show when it first came out a few years ago, but I don't think I would have seen it coming if I hadn't.
While I found the writing/prose to be rocky at points, it was overall pretty decent, especially considering this was either the first or one of the first books Bardugo had published. While I had little motivation to finish the book afterAlina and Mal get captured by the Darkling, I forced myself to get through it and was glad I did, ultimately. I think I will finish the trilogy, but its honestly largely because I've heard the Crows duology is spectacular and those characters had been my favourite on the show.
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a relatively quick read. While it definitely gets dark at points, the majority of it is pretty light, so I think there's lots to enjoy here. I never watched the second season of the show, and while the first seaosn definitely was quite different than this book (especially with meshing of the Crows books/characters into the story which I was suprised to find out doesn't actually take place during the same time and was completely separate), I am glad to be going into the second book completely blind on what might happen next. I'll be reading some other books before I continue on, but I do genuinely hope I find my way back to the series.

"Shadow and Bone" introduces readers to a richly imaginative world with a captivating magic system, marking a promising debut for Leigh Bardugo. However, the novel struggles with pacing; about 40% of the book feels bogged down by slow-moving plots and extraneous details that may detract from the overall experience. The narrative is steeped in a distinctly young adult flavor, particularly in how quickly characters develop romantic relationships, which might not appeal to all readers. For those intrigued by the premise but wary of these issues, the television adaptation offers a more engaging alternative, trimming the fluff and enhancing the pacing to better suit the story's strengths.

4 estrellas (re-lectura). Había olvidado muchísimas cosas. Me gustó, aunque Malyen, como la primera vez, me hizo poner los ojos en blanco porque a veces decía unos comentarios...
