This wasn’t what I expected. I thought it was a thriller but it wasn’t. It’s a sad melancholy story about loss. It does showcase how much grief is a journey and a different one for everyone. You feel the weight of it all. After awhile the storyline just got lost for me…

I genuinely really loved this book. I didn’t know anything about it and just randomly picked it up at a bookstore one day. I definitely was not expecting Sally to fall in love with Billy. Like that is your dead sister’s boyfriend. The guy who was driving the car when y’all got into a car accident that killed your older sister. But somehow it works?? Trauma bonding I guess. The pace was so good. The growth of the characters felt natural. Their love for each other seemed genuine and somehow got me rooting for them. Missed connections and lack of communication, typical romance novel. Very pleased with this one!

“But you will return to us, I know. When we are repainting the house or making pancakes for breakfast or digging in the garden or laughing at something funny with our heads back and our mouths wide open—the way you always laughed—we will breathe you in without even knowing it.”

i think this book puts losing a loved one into such a real perspective. through the entire book Sally never once forgot about her sister even though her memories of her became more and more distant. saying this book is a love story is just diminishing this book as a whole. it’s very beautiful and very easy to read.
