Someone needs to physically stop me from listening to fantasy and sci-fi audiobooks because I genuinely don't know what happened in the last quarter of the book and will have to re-read it in my paperback

I know I'm supposed to like this book. It has so many great reviews. It was pretty horrible.

It's too long-about 200 pages too long.

It is Harry Potter/Hunger Games/Insurgent/name another YA novel series mash up.

Why did I finish it? It became a challenge.

TL;DR: nope.

Wow! This was phenomenal. I’ve had it on my TBR for a while…so glad I finally sat down to read this! Darrow is an intriguing main character. Part brooding, part vengeful and impulsive but he seemed layered too. The world building was fantastic. I cannot wait for the next book!!

To be truthful, I did not expect to like this as much as I did. My husband read it and then recommended it. Dystopian novels are a dime a dozen and while I tend to like them, there are plenty of REALLY bad ones. This one is quite violent and nudity is a common part of the community, so it wouldn't make a movie that I would see probably, but the nudity wasn't graphic, so it worked okay in a book. Overall, the setting on Mars was interesting with the world at large being the solar system. I liked the Roman references. I liked the main character. My favorite scene was when he voluntarily got whipped. (I think that's not saying too much.) I liked how it defined his character so clearly from what he despised.

Excelente libro.
