It's been about a week since I finished this book and I am still having trouble putting my finger on it. The fact that I am still thinking about it lends itself to a good rating. But I am also just really perplexed by the set up. The BIG catalyst event that happens in the first few chapters is really incongruous with the rest of the tone of the novel. I think that could of been saved for later on in the series....
SpoilerEo could have urged Darrow to join the resistance and he would have listened. She didn't have to die immediately.

I really liked the book once Darrow goes undercover - that is when the book becomes decidedly more Hunger Games-esque. Though, it doesn't actually fit Hunger Games because in this case, the elite are willing to kill their own children pretty wantonly.

I am on the waitlist to read the next book in the series because there is definitely potential but I could see myself abandoning ship after that depending on how it goes. 3.5 stars
