So it’s not a bad book, I found it rather enjoyable. Slightly predictable but hey, sometimes you just need slightly predictable. However, I’ve said it before about Lucinda Riley’s characters and I will say it again…. These people need to start talking! I’m rather annoyed at how little the characters communicate but then again perhaps half the book would have been gone if they communicated better who knows 🤷♀️
I also found the “plottwist” (if you can even call it that) of Alicia rather thin veiled. It could have done with some more elaboration perhaps

got it because i was looking for books like kate morton. it had the same story structure, but was just awful - twists were telegraphed and not that interesting, writing was clunky, and the part in thailand had more than a bit of racism. very disappointing.
I don't understand why so many are hating on this novel I found it extremely hard to put down! I devour each of Lucinda's books and this was her first as she embarked on her novelist journey.
I am almost certain that those who didn't like this book are not in touch with their empathetic or emotional side and cannot put themselves in the shoes of another, simply based on their word choice in their reivews. This was an emotional book on many different levels and would recommend it to those who have experienced loss and felt they have lived 100 lives. There is much more to life than simple, black and white and this book explores all of that which I feel many of the reviewers fail to realize.
The intricacies between past and present are so tightly woven and the subtle hints she drops throughout makes it even more pleasurable as she seamlessly jumps between storylines. It is such a page turner that keeps your heart racing without seeming like she's packed too much in because it all adds up and adds to the emotion and poignancy of the core plot. Highly recommend - you will not regret this one.

Once I got into this, I was really hooked. I especially liked the backstory, set during and immediately after WWII. Yes there are some plot turns that are farfetched and annoying. Yes, there is some unsophisticated dialogue, but on the whole it was a very engaging story.
I rarely abandon a book. But I gave it up after 70-some-odd pages. The dialogue is trite. It doesn't move the story; it tells the story. And the characters are cliche. [This is what I wrote about six months ago, but the picked it up again after our local bookstore gave it a high rating.] There were some slow parts, and I had some trouble with stilted British dialogue, but I couldn't read the end fast enough.

Well....after reading reviews about the plot twists, I was prepared for how ridiculous it turned out. Though I appreciate the thought behind making such an intricate and involved story, it was going along fairly well until the last 25% of the novel (approximately) when it became: Too much. Overdone. BUT if you do read reviews beforehand and then read it in a fairy tale mindset—which it basically is—the book is bearable.
Serious page turner, but also very heartwarming. Great book to get caught up in!
