Started out good, with the friendship of Verity and Jess, and then became a series of cliches. Meh.

Nowhere near as poetic as I had expected. Far younger in the YA than I had expected lovely none the less.

Very much chic lit and a great coming of age story.

Poemsia feels like a more positive vibe than Sad Girls. I think this book while it is not bad I am able to recognise Lang Leav's style. She starts with a normal girl protagonist and then she somehow went on this remarkable journey to be a remarkable person that it feels like escapism that you know something bad is going to happen. But at the same time you kind of feel like no one's THAT lucky in life so you fail to resonate a little. It feels a bit weird that it is a story about poet but I didn't get any poetry in this book despite Lang Leav is an insta-poet. (No hate, I enjoyed insta-poetry myself). While I find Verity's journey to have good outcome for her kindness and she experienced the disappointment, I feel it lacks nuance. But it's fine, not everything has to be that way. It's still good for what it is, but after Sad Girls, this one feels a little underwhelming.

I liked the concept of this story, but it still felt a little too much like fanfiction again for my full liking.

This was an easy read with some lovely moments. I most liked the friendship between Verity and Jess and their mutual support of each other's dreams and creativity. The idealist novice and disillusionment with fame trope is a strong guiding force in the plot, but still rings true. Exploring the way social media drives manuscript acquisition and how fans/haters can dramatically influence sales was interesting.

I didn’t like Lang Leav’s Sad Girls, but for some reason, I still read another novel written by them. As people would say, I’m “disappointed but not surprised.”

The writing was like Mena Rhodes, both have no substance. The words used were very simple words, which made reading easy but boring. The way the story was written was just not it for me. The scenes didn’t trigger any strong emotion, even at the part where Penelope was trying to apologize to Vare.

I cannot even spoil you with anything because nothing really happened much. The plot was predictable because the story is cliché and the foreshadowing was awful. Most important parts were made very obvious from the start.

e.g.,

1. Love story between Sash and Vare
2. Sash and Pen’s past
3. Pen’s plan to try to bring down Vare
4. Sash, who wanted to own a bookstore, eventually reached his dream with Vare

The characters were immature. The way they talked, behaved, and thought made me forget that they were already adults and not middle-school children. For example, Vare was very easy-to-get to Sash. The romance between them was not what I was expecting from people their age. She was also an oversharer about her experiences and her family. One time when Pop was in the hospital, she even shared personal and unnecessary things to the doctor. In real life, you don’t do that; it’s unrealistic and weird.

I would say that this book was very mediocre. I didn’t like it. Maybe next time, I’ll try to read Lang Leav’s poems instead.
