Honestly, the plot just seemed like an opportunity to take a jab at book reviewers and others within the reader/writer community. I love Lang Leav for her poetry and she writes beautifully, but I just feel like I got nothing from the story
I enjoyed this one (but yes there were issues I will discuss lateR.) Verity writes poetry, lives in a bookshop, and then things change. Her friend urges her to try to get heard, because they live in a world where poets are super famous it seems. And through instagram she gets noticed and she will be on her way to fame.
But before that there is friendship, a blossoming romance and a question of what she wants. And I did enjoy it.
Ok, so to the issue. The author seems to dislike goodreads and reviewers. She talks about a site called Readers and they are superevil there, and have secret groups where they talk about how to take down authors, and then one star everything. And most read books they hate to one star, like wtf? So Verity questions why read a book that you will hate? Well VERITY, how the f would I know that?! There are authors I have loved, and then yes book 2 has gotten a 1 cos how the f will I know?!
Also the evil person in the book is a reviewer on goodreads and she is famous for it *snorts*
Saskia is a great narrator! I also liked her accent. So yes she made it great

Lang Leav totally gives me goosebumps in this book. It was set around Verity Wolf who loves poems and writing poems herself. She stays with her grandfather who owns a vintage bookshop. Her best friend, Jess pushes her to go after her dream which is to be a poet and publish her own books. While her dream is turning into reality, she also meet a guy that click with her right away. Sash who become her boyfriend was very supportive and they share the same love for books.
At the first event of her book, she gets to met her idol, Mena Thodes who is another poet. She tried to teach her how to be successful in publication business but needs to sacrifice her relationship with Jess, Sash and even her grandfather. To leave her old life and move to NY. Mena was try to exploit Verity’s talents to make more money for herself. Verity then realised that she not going to sacrifice anything but to bring the new success to her original life.
Things that really made me fall in love with this book:
⭐️Verity, her grandfather and Sash really love books and you can feel through the words Lang Leav wrote. And I REALLY LOVE BOOKS TOO
⭐️Their bookshop, was vintage with the bell at the door, first edition books with author’s signature collected by Verity’s grandfather, the smell of books, pile of books arrive for you to sort and put on the shelf ahhhh ❤️ It really makes me want to have a bookshop or at least a room full of bookshelf at every wall.
⭐️ Love Jess has for Verity just like I have for my bestfriends and what they have for me. We would just support each other to chase our dreams and be there no matter what.
⭐️ The moments of meeting someone who would share their life you, sharing everything you like with you, is just so so so lucky.

"You should just read whatever resonates with you. What's the point of suffering through a book just because the author is a literary star?"
I desperately want to give this book 5 stars. I adore Leav’s poetry and her first book, Sad Girl. I loved parts of this book but my biggest gripe was that the first part felt drawn out and the second part was so fast paced. Every plot point that was major and integral happened in basically the last 50 pages. It was well written, just a pacing issue for me.
Is the writing good? Eh. Is the story incredible? No. Are the characters good? Not really. Its probably best intended for young children. It was not nearly as poetic or beautifully written as I would have expected. I also would have liked the main character to be a stronger individual, but I suppose she's still young and finding her way...
I wanted to love this book so badly! I love Leav’s poetry and assumed this novel would be the same, but no. The dialogue was like bad TV writing in my opinion. There were parts the would make my heart flutter, but then the dialogue came and would ruin it. I also felt like everything was rushed. I had to push myself to finish this one.

One of my favorite books I've read in 2020. This book made my heart so happy! (Probably why I finished it in such a short period of time). A wonderful, light read that reminds you of the beauty in poetry. In my opinion, all poets should take a stab at novel writing. As we know, they already have a way with words, and an endless sea of stories to tell.
