When a couple gets together that early in a book, you just know drama is brewing and not the fun kind. Personally, that setup just gives me a steady undercurrent of anxiety, like I’m constantly waiting for the other shoe ( to drop. And yep, predictably, there’s the mistake, the fallout, the grovel, and all the usual jazz.

Was it a bad book? Not at all. It had its moments, and I get the appeal. But it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. I think I just prefer a bit more build-up before we start unpacking emotional damage and redemption arcs.

An okay read overall, but not one I’d rush to revisit.

The audiobook is over 20 hours long. And while I did like the narrators, I agree with a lot of other reviews in that it could be cut in half (in some parts I listened at 2X+ speed) and be compelling. Would I recommend it as a book, I'm not sure, but as an audiobook, yes. It's a relatively low-stress book to check out in between heavier novels. Personally, the "I'm not enough woman" can be a bit annoying, but was balanced with the playboy turned golden retriever boyfriend.

Oh alsoooo... someone else said this. So many names. All the series books are set up in this one book, and yeah. The two to get straight, Emmett and Garrett. Problem with audiobooks I guess, maybe if I saw it on the page I'd feel differently.
