DID NOT FINISH: 24%

I got this on audio cuz I needed to use up a credit - can't ever go wrong with a hockey romance and I like the MMCs narrator. Couldn't finish on audio cuz I felt like the MMC was whining too much, so I decided to try the book version.

Can't say I was wrong, the MMC really is that whiny, and unrealistically horny. Like, the second chapter has him giving his friends girlfriend a birthday gift and he's internally telling himself about how attractive she is, and then justifying it by saying, well I'm a guy with eyeballs. Like I get it, he's being set up as the guy that sleeps around, but I can't deal with someone who just objectifies the women he meets that aren't relatives. You don't get a pass cuz you're nice to your mom and sister, but need to ogle the rest of society with boobs.

I was almost a quarter of the way into the book and I feel like Carter is only pursuing this because he just wants the trophy of banging the girl that said no. Like, he sees her and talks to her on multiple occasions, but I don't see his attraction on a deeper level because he never mentions any other quality about her. She's short, cute, and curvy - all physical traits, nothing fundamentally about her that he's attracted to. Nothing about her job, her hobbies, her thoughts, nada.

This book is too long for me to try to care and finish. Olivia, you deserve better.

Glad I stuck with it

This was a bit of a mixed bag for me. It took a while to get into it, I mean it starting the first chapter with him in bed with someone else. I get that it's meant to show his fuckboy ways but it honestly just gave me the ick. Then it had the thing I hate in sports romances; "every girl wants me but her so she's the one I want". It's almost like they're trying to prove a point to themselves that everyone wants them. Honestly it's pathetic. It took a while to get past that but when it did, the awkward stuttering pining was adorable. Carter definitely fall first and falls hard. Olivia is hesitant to be with someone with his reputation but he is like a puppy with a bone and eventually wins her over. Sometimes this couple annoyed me, sometimes it was really sweet and other times I simply didn't care. In my opinion this book is far too long, like 200 pages too long. If not for the audiobook I'd likely have DNF'd it 100 pages in but I'm glad I powered though it. It kinda reminded me of Mile High by Liz Tomforde (but I liked that book more). Now I'm actually looking forward to picking up other books in the series. Go figure.

Just did not like either main characters. FMC is so boring. MMC is a whiny man child with no redeeming qualities.
