5 Sparkly, Bitey, Emotionally Devastating Stars

Imagine accidentally drunk-buying a cursed eBay trinket and waking up to a 600-year-old French vampire succubus in your living room, who technically has to obey your every command… but you're a cardigan-wearing werewolf with anxiety, a deep respect for consent, and the emotional fortitude of a wet paper towel. Reader, I am OBSESSED.

Ben: soft, anxious, sweater-vested werewolf who just wants to water his plants, knit quietly, and not own a sentient being.

Eleonore: knife-sharp vampire succubus assassin with PTSD, who could crush you between her thighs and might if you don't stop trying to take advantage of her cinnamon roll roommate.

Together? They are the human equivalent of "do not touch him, he's baby" meets "touch him and you die."

I came for the paranormal chaos, but I stayed for the trauma healing, top-tier consent scenes, and vampire/furry cohabitation energy. The steam? Spicy. The emotions? Unhinged. The communication? So healthy it made my therapist proud.

Also, there’s neck biting. And... other biting.

Highlights include:

Accidentally becoming roommates via online impulse buy
Found family that’s equal parts emotionally supportive and unhinged
A werewolf who hates being a werewolf (but loves a snacky vamp)
The vampire quoting Star Trek to process modern life
Emotional growth via knitting and murder prevention
10/10 would let Eleonore punch me in the face and then cry into Ben's hand-knit scarf about it. This book made my heart bite itself.

I loved this book! Adored Ben and Eleonore and their relationship. The mix of fantasy and a modern world worked so well for me and I enjoyed getting to experience this work through Eleonore’s eyes. Ben’s anxiety was handled so well, I felt really seen and I hope other people who read it feel the same.

Forced proximity…werewolves and vampire succubi and other mystical creatures…a cute small town in USA during Fall…a super sweet and endearing MC werewolf that is absolutely my new book boyfriend I mean what more could I ask for?!

I loved how relatable Ben was as an MC, he struggles with anxiety, rumination, and panic attacks and it’s not portrayed as weakness but as a means of how much he cares for others. That spoke to me so much as someone who struggled with similar mental health issues. I thought that side of his character was portrayed so well. And then I just love Eleanor with him, she is the complete opposite of him and they balance each other out so well. Their interactions were the most fun and I really loved the progression of their love story. And ohmygoodness do I want to live in Glimmer Falls, it seemed like the perfect world to be in and I was happily jealous of how close everyone was. If adulthood could be just like this, where all your friends lived in the same town (forever) and your days and nights were spent watching movies, going on adventures, and getting silly drunk here and there it’d be perfect. Made me miss college and ew how old that makes me sound.

Lowkey think like 100 pages could’ve been cut just because the second act of the book kind of felt drawn out at times and I found myself looking to read other things more in between. But overall I like the author’s cutesy, cheesy at times, funny, and heartfelt writing style. It was a nice cozy read and the spice level was well-balanced throughout 🤌🏾. I’ll have to check out her other two books.

This was a nice ending to the Glimmer Falls series, I think it also pivoted a little bit, tonally, but still kept the fun cast of characters and allowed us to get to know a few of the periphery characters better.

Each of the books have a main theme, if you want to call them that, environmentalism, regressive politics, and in this one, the main theme is consent. How they are done in this series is to make them so glaringly obvious, that you couldn’t argue for the opposite. Eleonore cannot refuse a command, which meant she has been an assassin for her previous owner for 600 years and couldn’t say anything against it. With Ben, he is so conscious of not forcing her into anything, which is a new experience for her because, in 600 years, she hasn’t had anyone prioritise her, or ask her is she wants to do something.

What I did love was our soft MMC, we really don’t get enough supportive, generous, soft men in the bookish space, and I’m so glad that we got Ben Rosewood. He’s an anxiety ridden werewolf, but he is also incredibly supportive and caring, and really only wants to make sure that Eleonore isn’t made to be uncomfortable at any point. I liked the comment that every couple needs a stabby one and a soft one, but that this couple reversed it, because we don’t see that enough!

This book didn’t lose any of its cringe, which I liked for some moments but others had me actually putting the book down, so I could have a break from it. I think that reading it now, it’s still relevant, but I think if someone were to read this five years from now, I don’t know if it would age very well.

I always enjoy the crazy hijinks of this series. I feared Ben would be a moper after the first chapter, but luckily it turns out his life is way too busy for him to be too depressing. He was very relatable, actually. His anxiety made me feel more normal.

And man did I love Eleonore. She's hilarious and relatable and vicious which was just wonderful. Her PTSD is heart-breaking and I wanted only good things to happen for her. The weird stage shows were such an original and bonkers choice for her character and I loved it.

I do have to say that there's a few too many pages in this book though. As much as I love the characters, it felt like we were just going over the same ground repeatedly, with the only difference being the position of the wonderfully athletic sex they're having before they have a deep, heartfelt conversation about their anxieties and fears. It's grew stale and a good editor could've cut a bunch of pages down or out.
