I absolutely adore Sarah Hawley’s writing — it is laugh out loud funny, poignant, and clever. You usually know what you’re getting into in romance books, but hers are such a breath of fresh air and this one is no different.

Even through the magic and shenanigans, there were some really beautiful moments of vulnerability and topics of anxiety and abuse were handled so well.

The plot surrounding the romance was well thought out, and the supporting cast of characters was such a delight. Eleonore‘s devised theatre subplot was also so much fun.

Ben is an anxiety riddled gentle feminist king who defies the common werewolf stereotype and who embraces the golden retriever book boyfriends like no other (cue the dog jokes due to him being a werewolf). On the other hand Eleanora is a badass ptsd riddled six hundred year old succubus/vampire that takes no shit and deserves all of the love that Ben shows her. Lots of laughs and such a good feel good rom-com.

Every time I pick up here books I think they will be cute fun easy reads and they are but she always seems to slip deeper topics. I loved the conversation that he is aware that it’s nonsensical that he eats meat from the store but he isn’t comfortable eating prey in wolf form. Eleonore’s performance was one of the funniest things I’ve read and her message behind it was so authentic and makes you think. It was a true opposites attract.
