A very good end to a very enjoyable series. I think it says a lot that this book doesn't come to a grand, satisfying ending - that would make it clear it's a story. Rather, you're left with a somewhat unsatisfying realism, a sense that the saga continues to play out long after we've stopped peering into their universe; after all, nothing really ends. It's hard to build a universe that does that, so my hat's off to Ann Leckie.

sigh. loved the ending, i vibe w ann leckie's vision and politics and interests unfortunately i found the entire trilogy so badly written/constructed that it's hard to truly appreciate it. happy i read all of it, but probs wouldn't rec them!

Really good, but the ending just didn't satisfy the way I was hoping after reading the first two books. But I'm still intrigued by this setting and definitely going to read the two spin offs.

If thinking about the mars rover makes you cry, this series is for you.

“… And maybe it isn’t that ships don’t love other ships. Maybe it’s that ships love people who could be captains. It’s just, no ships have ever been able to be captains before.”

i was worried for this one, partly because i generally don't deal well with series (i'm getting better though), but mostly because i couldn't see a way the trilogy could be wrapped up well in one book. thankfully, my worries were unjustified and i enjoyed the ending! i adore breq so bad, and i loved seeing how breq's role and character changed over the course of the books.

aside from the ending, i was kind of bored during the book and i'm not sure why. i loved the first two books (with a particular soft spot for the first one of course), so i genuinely have no idea what it was about this one that didn't work for me as well. i am writing this a week later, and i've barely read anything since, so i'm guessing i was already partway into a slump when i started this book. i'm hoping to reread this at some point in the distant future so i can figure out my issues. i just didn't feel immersed in the book and the plot issues needing to be resolved. i'm so sad over this, you have no idea.

Fitting send off to the Radch trilog. The ending is creative and thrilling. A joy in Leckie’s writing is she is confident enough to suggest fascinating concepts without detailing ever part of it. Allows the readers to do the work.

The third book, more than the others, meditated on what it means to be human, sentient, and significant, and also what it means to trust your community and challenge the status quo. I enjoyed that the narrator hid the ball throughout the book, so while the trilogy wrapped up nicely, it was in an unexpected way.
