Trigger warning: The mom in this book is very similar to the mom in The Maid. There are mental health issues, child neglect, and incarceration in this story. The author works with licensed counselors to depict these issues in a dignified way.
I couldn’t stop listening to this book. I’m so happy for the medium-slow pace that let me live so much of life with Emma & Justin. Now, where can I meet a Justin? Emma and Justin are supposed to date so they can cancel out their curses, and finally meet “the one”. So many tropes and experiences in this book. I can’t wait for the next Abby Jiminez!

Eu não estava gostando tanto da leitura, me apegando pouco aos personagens, mas nos últimos 30% talvez, me pegou mais. A forma como a autora abordou a questão de genitores - que podem sim serem pessoas não boas, complicados e até mesmo tóxicas - foi algo que achei bem trabalhado, que não costumo ver nos romances mais "novo adulto". Também adorei o final que a Emma não se joga direto na relação, precisa ter um tempo para si, para buscar ajuda e lidar com as tantas coisas que ela passou, mostrando a importância de ser pra si antes de tudo.
O que eu mais gosto nos livros da Abby, é que temas sobre saúde mental, sempre estão presentes, além de passar por tantos outros assuntos mais pesados, sem perder a veia de um romance com clichês.
E adoro passear pelo Abbyverso, caçando as referências.

Seriously, how do her books just keep getting better and better? I thought nothing would top Yours Truly (which is now tied for my fav of hers). Her stories are SO well written and the perfect balance of realistic struggle and romance. Abby brought the series full circle in the best, jaw-dropping of ways. Yet again, I laughed, I cried (a lot- the content of this book hit reallllll close to home), and I swooned (I freaking love Justin- forget book boyfriends- he's my book soulmate). Also, we all should have a Maddy in our lives. That girl is a real MVP.

Abby Jimenez is so good! I enjoyed this book so much and loved all of the nods to her previous books. Emma and Justin were great characters. Each had their own baggage - a traumatic childhood and mentally unstable mother for her and being the legal guardian of three younger siblings for him - but they learn how to show up for one another, not in grand gestures but in life’s mundane, everyday moments. This was a great read. Abby Jimenez’s writing is smart and funny, and she handles tough, complex topics with empathy, compassion, and nuance. I hope she keeps writing books forever!

I can understand why this book is on everyone's TBR and top rated for this summer. It's a quick read, but it keeps you engaged from beginning to end. It's not a unique love story, but the circumstances for their love is unique. The MMC is lovable from the beginning and I wanted to root for the FMC but she made some questionable choices from beginning to end. The friendship that she has with her best friend/foster sister was both frustrating and endearing because you could see that all her best friend wanted was for her to be happy. I did Iike the Reddit beginning and trendy references, but I feel like that will make this book irrelevant in a couple of years, so it's great to read in this moment. I was happy to see that there is a happy ending for all of the characters at the end and that the FMC finally gets some therapy.
