I enjoyed this a little bit more than the 1st. I have read 3/6 books, and so far, this is my favorite.
Riley and Aiden spend an evening together after the rockstar bids on her for a charity auction. What was an explosive night is ruined by a lie that destroys Aiden's reputation and causes Riley to fake her death. Three years later, Aiden tracks her down and is intent on getting revenge.
Aiden is more unhinged than I was expecting. I loved it. He wants to hate her for what he thinks she did but is still just as obsessed with her, if not more than the first time they met.
I liked the storyline. Riley has a past that causes her not to come forward with the truth, but you can totally understand why Aiden would want to hurt her back. He is so obsessed with her, though, that he even drinks peppermint tea and eats peppermints because they remind him of the way she smells. (Side note, I HATED the lotion scene. IYKYK)
I loved the spice, particularly their first time and the scene in the bathroom. It does go towards non con, though.
This deals with PTSD, mental health, child neglect, and self-harm. I think it was done well. There was enough of it to give the emotional depth and grit the story needed while not being too heavy and depressing.
I found the villain and ending a bit anticlimactic if I was being honest. I also wished we got a classic "who did this to you" when he sees her scars. I feel like a man that obsessed would have demanded to know.

This was my first introduction to these characters, but not having read sweet sacrifice didn't rake away from thus story.
I really enjoyed the fmc as I much prefer a damaged loner. The mmc had his own troubles which made them a good pairing.
Thus story spanned a period of time and loved that we saw kal again.
Lots of drama and intrigue with a surprising ending.
