Graphic description of sexual assault

Strongly feel this should be required reading.

Had a slow build and I would get lost in the timeline but overall it was a good and sad read. Makes me hurt for Lacy with everything she has gone through.
challenging dark reflective medium-paced

It's so simple, what happened at St. Paul's. It happens all the time.

Ugh. Gutted.

There was a point in the book where I wondered why so much was included outside of the silencing. It became clear, though, that the silencing was a tentacled thing that reached across the various aspects of her life and gripped her in a strangle hold. This is beautifully written and important. For those unfamiliar with sexual assault and its various manifestations and ways of impacting victims, this is a worthy read. It’s also a damning exploration of the ways institutions condone and perpetuate the continued victimization of children and young people by powerful, privileged men.

This has trigger warnings galore but if you can stomach the topic of sexual assault then this is such a poignant read.
dark emotional sad fast-paced

This memoir is meandering, repetitive, and pretentious. What happened to the author is awful, and there were moments in the book where I sympathized with her, but filled with so much insufferable fluff of boarding school life, I had a hard time feeling invested in this book, which was much longer than it needed to be. Would not recommend.
