Very disappointing end to the series. Just couldn't hold my interest. I think the series should've ended with the 3rd book.

The fourth installment of the Book of Ember series brought me right back to the nostalgia and wonder of the first, as if the middle two books never happened. It had mysteries, travel, plans crafted by Lina and Doon, and some adults that provided help and insight along the way. In Diamond of Darkhold, the Emberites have been living in the town of Sparks for almost a year, and they have all been working very hard to survive with little warmth and food. Doon one day discovers, through a book traded from a roamer, that there was something more that the people of Ember were supposed to have from the builders of Ember and the civilizations of the past- so he and Lina set on on a journey to find it. Along the way they meet strange new people. get captured, make new friends, re-discover their old city, and find what it is that was meant to be their legacy. DuPrau's books all have the feeling of wonder, of a desire for the past, and a need to answer questions. This was a very fun and fast read, and I can definitely see myself re-reading this one in the future. Crossing fingers that this book will one day become a graphic novel as well!

This book may be my favorite in the series after the first book. It was tons of fun, action-packed, and it tied everything together really nicely. I would definitely recommend this whole series, with the exception of the third book which is really more of a prequel and pretty much entirely unnecessary except for something that happens at the very end of this book, but even then, you don't really need to read it. But The Diamond of Darkhold was a great finale to a fast and fun series.

*3.5 stars.
I feel like it took a long time for things to get going, and everything was really slow until the end when it showd what was going on with Doon, Lina, and Kenny. By then I was finnaly sucked in, but before that if I set the book down, I didn't pick it up for at least a few hours.
I wish Poppy were in this more, and that we know more about Scawgo. I love how Trogg gave the not-city nanes, I think it adds a little something to his character and how he isn't all he thinks he is.

Good ending to the series book3 of 4. The village of sparks struggles during the winter. Doon buys a book from a roamed that he thinks is a clue to something special that was left behind. Lina and Doon decide to head back to Ember. They discover that a group of people have moved into the city. The group discovered a diamond that doon believes belongs to the people of ember. Kept the mystery about what the diamond does and how it is used.

This was so far my favorite book of the series. I felt that the characters were more developed, the story was just more interesting and more engaging. I am glad I read the three others in order to get to this book which was worth reading the others.
