Fantastic series. Only thing I didn't like about it was the whole alien thing. It was strange and out of place.

This book provided a satisfying ending to the series. While it wasn't super exciting or action packed (the issues were resolved rather quickly), it did give a good indication of the world that coming for these people. I enjoy that the series both begins and ends with Lina and Doon adventuring together to save people they love.

This book manages to capture some of the thrill and excitement of the 1st book. It gives a good resolution to our heroes and the people of Ember. However, it really could have done without the callback to The Profit of Yonwood. That was cheap and added world building that could, and should, never be resolved.

This is the last book in the series. I enjoyed the ride, and am sad to see it go. I think maybe this was my favorite book, and am glad that it had such a happy ending. Wonderful series.

**spoiler alert** June 19th, 2021:
the only relevant thing here is that Lina and Doon eventually fall in love, get married, have kids, and their future gen looks back at Lina's drawings in wonder bc they created the future (even though they didn't live to see it).

I really liked the first book in this series "The City of Ember" but the second and third books were not as good. They lacked the sense of adventure, discovery, and suspense that the first book had. The fourth book "The Diamond of Darkhold" was a return to the style of the first book. It had the same amount of adventure although it was not as suspenseful. Once again, the plot was a bit farfetched and relied on the mass survival of very fragile products to come together. But it is the adventure and discovery that makes this series entertaining, so just ignore the fact that the author asks us to suspend our disbelief as much as she does.
