Que libro mas adorable! Una versión sencilla de la vida de una mujer tan interesante, perfecta introducción para personas no muy entendidas en el mundo de Frida (como yo).
Supero corto y fácil de leer, lo devoré en una sola tarde.

This would appear to be quite a rogue choice for me. Kahlo is a famous face, instantly recognisable. Yet, I knew virtually nothing about her. I was determined to end my 2023 reading year on an even number (90 books). I needed a short book (this is just over 150 pages). Also Ariel Bissett loves reading & learning about Frida Kahlo so this led me here.
It is a comprehensive yet accessible overview of Kahlo’s life. It is told from the POV of Kahlo. With Kahlo as our narrator, this feels almost like Kahlo’s diary, very memoir-like.
I also really enjoyed the Kahlo-inspired illustrations. While writing about her, I wish the author/illustrator had included the original paintings/drawings that were reimagined also. It would have made the book a more concrete source of information about Kahlo. Maybe it’s just me being lazy & not wanting to track down the paintings online after reading. I did my own bit of research, it’s not *that* cumbersome, but I would have loved if that was included in the book.
Nonetheless, something very different for me and a breath of fresh air.

Iḿ fascinated by Frida Kahlo, and have read many articles and books about her and her art. I wrote several essays in college for my Art History classes. So finding this graphic novel in the library, an illustrated life of Frida,I had to add it to my stack.
The graphics are absolutely on point-well done, but not over done. Graphics that are simple and exemplary of her life. Each graphic could stand alone, but collectively they form a perfect pictorial of her life. This is beautifully done and presented. A graphic novel to treasure.

Bereits als ich das niedliche Cover sah, wollte ich mir das Buch genauer anschauen. Spanisch ist nicht meine Muttersprache; dennoch habe ich dank der Zeichnungen viel verstanden. Aber auch mein Übersetzer hat mir natürlich weitergeholfen ;).
Besonders originell fand ich die kleinen Auszüge aus Fridas Aufzeichnungen- sogar in ihrer eigenen Handschrift! Frida und ihr Mann Diego Rivera wurden „der Elefant und die Taube“ genannt- das dazugehörige Bild war in diesem Buch, gemeinsam mit der Abbildung über die Schmerzzentren, mein Favorit.
Frida konnte einem oft echt leidtun: körperliche und seelische Schmerzen suchten sie mehrfach heim. Diego führte nebenbei andere Beziehungen- auch zu ihrer Schwester Cristina. Fairerweise muss man dem jedoch hinzufügen, dass auch Frida Affären hatte.
Die Idee ihrer Eltern, nach dem Unfall einen Spiegel über dem Bett anzubringen, damit sie sich selbst zeichnen konnte, fand ich spitze! Frida fertigte viele Selbstgemälde an, welche ihr Innenleben verwirklichten- insbesondere ihre Verletzungen, ihre Beziehung zu Diego sowie ihre Fehlgeburten wurden thematisiert.
Alles in allem gut und verständlich auf den Punkt gebracht. :)

Uno de mis libros favoritos de la vida. Todo en él es hermoso, las ilustraciones de María Hesse le dan un peso a lo narrado que no se explica. además, la edición es hermosa.

Bardzo trudno jest ocenić biografię. A tym bardziej ciężko jest ocenić konkretnie tę przedstawicielkę tego gatunku. Jest to bowiem ciekawe połączenie klasycznej biografii z powieścią graficzną. Książka jest bardzo pięknie wydana, posiada bogate i kolorowe ilustracje, które nawiązują do twórczości i życia Fridy. Zawiera mało tekstu, jednocześnie przekazując maksimum treści. Przedstawia czytelnikowi życie niezwykłej osobistości w dosadny i prosty sposób, który moim zdaniem poruszy każdego. Napisanie tej książki w pierwszej osobie jeszcze bardziej wzmaga ten efekt. Ta biografia, choć nie przedstawia z wielkimi szczegółami życia Fridy, jest prawdziwa i potraf doskonale budować napięcie i emocje. Posiada brutalną prawdę wyrażoną w tekście i ilustracjach bez cenzury. Dla mnie mocno wstrząsająca. Bo czasami nie potrzeba wielu słów, aby przekazać wszystko.
