1.25: What the actual f*** was that? Paris's debut novel, "Behind Closed Doors" was an amazing book filled with themes and characters that was deserving of its 5 stars. Her second book, not so much. But this was utterly stupid.
Somewhere the plot became clear to me but I kept reading because the author knows how to keep you turning the pages. But did she seriously put these horribly unlikable people, a completely unbelievable (even for this genre) plot and expect us to be happy with it? According to most of the reviews, the answer is yes.
*SPOILERS*
Horrible human being falls obsessively in "love" with young girl and and she turns out to be crazy too.
Don't bother reading.

What the fuck was that.
love the author. love the unique concept of this book. it didn't make sense at all & the main characters were incredibly dense
I initially wanted to listen to this audiobook when I noticed Cathleen McCarron (Eleanor Oliphant) was a narrator, but I was quickly disappointed by the course this book took. I kept anticipating a more evenly shared narrative between the male and female voices, especially based on the title and the belief that the story might be told more from her perspective. I didn’t hate the book, but it was just meh. Finn struck me as self absorbed and not too bright. The 7 hours and 14 minutes I spent listening to the audiobook is time I will never get back. I adore Cathleen McCarron’s narration, but the brief amount of time we hear her cannot make this book more than it is. It’s just okay. Also, someone needs to tell Kevin Hely, Finn’s narrator, not to *actually* shout when the character is shouting. 3 stars because I felt generous.
Edited to add: why aren’t the female characters more developed? They are flat and one dimensional. Peggy had more depth than any of the human characters.
