This is a hard one for me to review. It was better than a 3 but compared to others I have given a 4 to it just doesn't measure up for me. It was a little slow to start but I couldn’t put it down when I got to section 3. I liked both Layla and Ellen and thought Paris’ characterization of them was believable. However, Finn was a problem for me. I went from liking him to hating him to feeling sorry for him to loathing him. But, my main problem was trying to understand how he didn’t know what was going on. I know love is supposed to be blind, but….. I was surprised by the ending but I find it hard to believe how it got to that point.

I did not enjoy this. There was so much ridiculous back and forth about whether to tell anyone about the weird things happening. Which by the way the main thing that was happening the significance really was never explained, and the ending twist really wasn’t that great either. I read a lot of thrillers. The only reason I gave this one a 2 and not a 1 is because I didn’t dnf it.
I received an ARC from St. Martin’s Press in exchange for an honest review for the #bringmeback campaign.
This book started off great. There was mystery surrounding Layla’s disappearance that kept me hooked, along with the little pieces of the past that kept popping up in Finn’s life years later.
It eventually slowed down though. I kept finding myself stuck on wondering more about the town Finn and Ellen live in (and the pub they keep visiting) just due to the fact that there wasn’t really any description of it, which should say something about the characters if I’m busy thinking of the location more than their details. It all became a little repetitive for a while.
I won’t spoil the ending, but it was definitely unexpected and dare I say a little unrealistic to me. Overall I still poured through the book within a week and would suggest it as a beach read if looking to pass a few hours! It also led me to read Behind Closed Doors by this same author which was very creepy so I’m glad to have been introduced to the work of B.A. Paris.

Seriously love this author and the way the stories just pull you in and you can't stop.
The MMC is so frustrating. I listened to this in audiobook form, and the narrators were fine. I still felt unsure if I wanted to smack my head in annoyance or the MMC. He was constantly doing the same thing. He knows he should tell someone about the dolls, definitely tell his fiancee what's going on, and yet doesn't because he "wants to talk" first. I'm just...why? I listened to this twice and still don't understand his logic. I don't understand Layla either. I finished the book, but only because I could tolerate the narrators' voices.
