Thoroughly enjoyed this novel. As I read the exercept, I was not completely sure what to expect. This book takes through the lives of people who dabble in a world of lies, drugs, and suspense. I imagine that some of this novel accurately depicts what goes on in the world. Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend to others.
A terrific second book in this series. Lola is, by far, the most interesting protagonist to come along in crime fiction in a long, long time, and this book features another plot that is slowly revealed to the reader in a masterful way. A great read.
heroin? Heroine?
Some lovely quotable lines. And I like that the characters are all nuanced - not black not white.
And if you don't fit with your tribe...what do you do? where do you go?
If your child is a monster, what do you do?
If you mother is?
If your brother is?

This book was amazing! I read Lola and American Heroin back to back and I have to say it really enhanced the experience. Both books were amazing. Gang wars, the struggle of balancing work life and home life, murder, expert plotting, and above all love and loyalty. If these sound good to you, pick these books up NOW!!

I absolutely loved this sequel. Again Lola struggles with very dark issues. She is such a compelling character, but I loved that in this book we got to know more about Andrea. I really hope there will be a 3rd book.
“American Heroin” by Melissa Scrivner Love is the second book in the “Lola Vasquez” series. This book does stand on its own, but it would be an advantage to have read the first book, “Lola” to have a better understanding of the background and the characters. Readers are immediately immersed in Lola’s violent and intense world of drugs, violence, and deception. She is the boss, and she is determined to remain the boss no matter who is in her way.
Love paints Lola as a gritty and yet somehow strong and compelling cartel boss. The pace is fast, the action is uncompromising, and the results are brutal. The language matches her position -- graphic, violent, and explicit. It is not a book for the casual reader or for feel-good entertainment.
Love also contrasts Lola’s fearsome presence with the local geography.
I include a caution for graphic language and violence, but it is certainly within the scope of what could be expected from the characters. The story is wild, harsh, and at times very complex, but once readers start, they will be compelled to finish. I was given a review copy of “American Heroin” by Melissa Scrivner Love, Crown Publishing, and NetGalley.

Malibu, this far north of the Santa Monica Pier and the littering tourists that swarm it, the sand is as clean and white as the caps that top the waves crashing and pulling back, crashing and pulling back. Lola wants to get her feet wet, but she knows the water will be too cold.

Interesting and gritty book about this tough and current topic in America today. I appreciated the content and writing but have not yet read the previous book which would have helped with my understanding of the plot and characters from the beginning. I look forward to other work from this author.

This book was a hot mess (but in a good way)
I would have given this book a higher rating but at some parts I got bored so...
This is a sequel to [b: Lola|30900212|Lola|Melissa Scrivner Love|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1469403347s/30900212.jpg|51530270] which is about a lady who is the leader of a drug gang? cartel? and they sell heroin. I can't really say much about this book because then it will spoil things for the first book.
But I will just ramble on about how I felt about this book. So Lola was really good I think I gave it 4 stars when I read it last year so I was super excited for this second book. Upon the first chapter I immediately was hooked... then it took me forever to pick my kindle back up to read because of college and I was reading other books but every time I did get to read this I would read 4 chapters in one sitting. Lola is such a bad ass and I seriously love the different parts of her from being a boss, to a mom, to a whole different person when she has to interact with others outside of her circle. The action in this story really kept me on my toes but sometimes I will get bored with the descriptions and things would be repeated multiple times. I will admit I did skim here and there because the plot seemed like it was dragging but those last like 5 chapters or so OMG. Based off the ending though I do not know if there will be a book 3 I will like there to be but what will it be about?
If I didn't get bored at some parts which I blame school for that I probably would have given this a 4 star but a 3.5 star is going to have to do for now.
