This is maybe the 3rd book I've read where the relationship is master/slave or in this case master/pet and I am just not a fan of them. I try because in theory it sounds good but when I'm reading I just want to scream at the helplessness of her situation. Especially with this book where Ellie was kidnapped and made into a pet by someone she actually liked. So I think Im going to stop reading trying to read them. I forced myself to finish this book because I needed to know why Kayne was doing what he was doing. Even though I don't agree in anyway that there wasn't another way to save her. Off the top of my head I can think of 7 different ways he could have protected her without making her a slave. And I'm sure if I sat here and thought about it there would be a lot more. So I HATE that his reasoning was protection.

So the storyline wasn't great. I mean I wanted to know what was going on so thats something. I honestly skimmed a lot of the sex scenes towards the end. I hate that Ellie was starting to like it. I hate that her freewill was taken away from her and she was starting to be okay with it. She was falling in love with a man who kidnapped her, chained her while she slept, put a collar on her, abused her repeatedly (and more than once just because he was frustrated with someone else), he didn't technically rape her.. but he did touch her without her permission and he got off on that shit. I am okay with all the dominating stuff as long as there is consent and the is zero consent in this book. But to be fair, the author does warn you about the slave relationship. I just always go into thinking it won't be as bad as it is.

I think I probably will read the next book because I've read a few reviews and it seems that the relationship goes to a sub/dom role and that I like. I really, really hope that's true. Otherwise I won't push myself to finish it like I did with this book.

Thanks Netgalley for a copy to read and give my honest opinion.

Frankly this isn't a book for everyone but if you like dark erotica then this is for you. This isn't safe sane and consensual sex....FYI.

"A certain kind of darkness is needed to see the stars" I'll say this was a hot erotic read with moments of nonconsenting sex. Book one in the decadence after dark series with a mild cliffhanger ending. BDSM at its finest.

Kayne Roberts has a serious weakness when it comes to Ellie Stevens. He forces her into a master slave relationship after a rapist dominant shows an interest in Ellie. Protecting her the only way he knows how....by owning her. I enjoyed the read, very sexual in nature, and gave it four stars of entertainment just because I enjoy this dark erotica. Most will think it's too much, or too dark. Be warned.

What do you do when the only way to save her is to break her?
Owned by M. Never is a tantalizing tale of sex, lies, and betrayal. This story took me on an emotional journey, which left me yearning for more. Within the first few pages, I realized this story was going to rip me apart and leave me bared and raw just like her characters. And it did just that! God, I loved this book.
Each of her characters added intense layers to the story that produce an all-around great book.
Kayne is strong, honest, and a truly caring soul. He wants nothing more than to care for those who care for him. He has a trouble pass that makes it hard for him to let others in and to trust them. However, once he does allow you in he will do ANYTHING to protect you. He is fantastically SEXY, and Dominating.
Ellie is head strong, brave, and funny. You will fall in love with her from the start. Even though she’s faces events that would destroy others, she is able to hold on to herself and all she believes in. She allows these events to make her stronger, even if others see it has her being weak or losing her identity.
What can I say about Jett? God there is just too much to mention, just know you will LOVE him!
I give this book 5 STARS!! It shattered me in all the right places. I absolutely loved this book!

This book had the beginnings of a Fifty Shades, Crossfire theme and then did a complete 180 that I didn't see coming. This was my first dark read so I was for sure a little wide eyed and shocked with some of the things that were taking place, but overall, I really enjoyed the book. I definitely liked the Kayne at the end of the book more than drug lord Kayne.
