Read for book club.
There were structurally elements I really enjoyed, and reams of intertextuality that flew over my head.
Loved a lot of the details in the background of the illustrations, and found it pleasingly easy to follow despite my lack of experience with graphic novels.

Not what I expected, knowing that it had been turned into a musical, although I’m not sure what it was that I did expect.

An engaging read - I pretty much read in a single sitting.

((Personally, I found the most powerful beats all fell in the opening chapter))

Style/writing: 3 stars
Themes: 4 stars
Perspective: 2.5 stars (I have really complicated feelings because of how the adult-minor relationships were never really addressed in the narrative?)
Art: 3 stars

Great storytelling and an interesting memoir. Personally I didn't relate to any of Bechdel's life, and probably would have been easier to understand if I knew more of the literary references she made throughout the book, but it was an interesting memoir regardless.
