Complicated
I was lucky enough to receive this book as an ARC, and I have to say, after reading the prior two books in this trilogy, this is the best one, yet. I’m so grateful to have been able to witness Starre’s development as a writer.
I LOVED Dane and Elliott. Their personal character development I believe was well done, and the slow burn was AGONIZING— I loved every moment of it.
While I could have done with MORE from Elliott around how she is able to create healthier boundaries with her family, I think Starre wrapped it up nicely in the final chapter— presumably, Elliott wouldn’t go away for such a long time if she still had the same level of guilt/misplaced responsibility.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I highly encourage you to read it. ESPECIALLY if you like friends to lovers, slow burn, and a sex positive man.
I appreciated how Starre highlighted Elliott’s troubles with orgasming, and the shame that often accompanies women who have this struggle. As a mental health therapist and blooming sex therapist, this is much more common than we realize. I think Starre handled this topic with care, and I loved how Dane’s character responded to this knowledge— if only all men of the world would take note.
I, for one, really enjoy bearing witness to an authors growth over time and this trilogy is no exception. If you are so inclined, read all three— but KNOW that this one is the best one and it’s only up from here.
