3.5 I liked it but unfortunately wasn’t invested in the characters other than Wayne. Also, the plot wasn’t that captivating to me, which is why I don’t think I’m going to continue with the rest of the series.
Sept 16 2025; (5/5) : The Alloy of Law
This was a pretty solidly fun book, which helped to expand the world of Mistborn and acted as a nice return to the magic, and introduction to new characters, and some references to characters of old. This is a very different style than the original Mistborn, feeling more like a western than a true epic fantasy (which is not by any means a bad thing). It also gave me some strong Desden Files vibes which is very different from the original Mistborn. I enjoyed the dynamics between the characters and the general plot was interesting. I also enjoyed how even as technology has increased, the powers of the characters have gone down in a natural non disruptive way. I think this was a very smart way to restart a series as otherwise power creep would expand too quickly. TLDR: a solid introduction to a new series, which while very different from the original, still holds plenty of charm.

My respect for Brandon Sanderson grows with each book I read of his. This book is positively brief, compared to his other works. I liked that Wax was an older character, with some history. Vin and Elend were so young. I felt both interested in and bored by Miles. His power was interesting and his good-cop-gone-bad-morals felt boring. I hope Steris gets more interesting in the next books. Wax's "I'm too old and broken for Marasi" felt a bit patronizing. My favourite part was the world building and magic.
Really enjoyed seeing allomancy in a new setting with new characters.
Also enjoyed the fact that this was half the size of the other Mistborn books
