This started off strong. I’m a bit of a comedy nerd so I thought I’d like this more. I thought it was fine. My qualms are probably it being a little long winded at moments, which usually contributes to me becoming indifferent. Those moments came in small waves, thankfully. Some of the topics in here are important, which is good for ya readers to see.

Katie Henry, knows how to write a teenage story that so many kids could look out. I am really sad that her books wasn’t in my life when I grow up, because I think I would feel more safe that someday it gets better.
I really enjoyed the dynamic between characters, the friendship build up was written so well. Especially I like that in high school friendships are falling apart, because you change and your whole world is different and some relationships can’t last it, but if it is a real friend it will.
I like how our main character started to believe in herself and how she changed form the page one to last.
I would definitely put TW for abuse/toxic relationships. And I am so glad that it is shown in book for teenagers, because I feel like it is always the romance with perfect relationships when they don’t fight, the guy is Prince Charming.
Of course in your life you can get in the toxic relationship and it can’t be treated like is is ok, it is normal because it is not and everyone deserves to be feeling safe and happy when they are with their partner. I like how it was betrayed in the book.
And what I love in Katie Henry’a books is the family dynamics, how sometimes you feel unwanted and sad and also not heard. Which is so important, and I love that in every book she wrote it is there and they finally talk with each other.

Just a few points:
- Real easy to read! And very funny, thank god
- Representation! And in a fairly natural way
- There is a lot of growth for a lot of characters. I will say that while the climax is satisfying and not unfounded, it is a little abrupt if you think about it. Girl goes from 0 to 20 gradually and then from 20 to 100 in a snap. (And then she grows some more.)
- Some really nice metaphors about plants.
Overall I quite liked this :)
Graphic: Emotional abuse
Moderate: Sexual assault
Minor: Drug use
I think: This author captures teenagers in a way that I feel many YA authors miss the mark on, that I see some of my high school experience in this main character.
I think: This book is a bouquet of ideas and emotions, so well thought out, it had me feeling sad or angry one minute then laughing out loud the next.
I say: Prioritize Katie Henry's books; this one is quite unique and won't disappoint.

Out of all the fiction with standup comedy plotlines I've read in the last year, this one has to be my favorite. I feel like the author did an excellent job of highlighting characters' diversity without pretending to understand a culture she's not a part of. Izzy's voice is very funny and realistic. All of Izzy's comedy friends are fantastic. There were so many tough issues rolled into this one, but the author managed to highlight them all realistically without it seeming like an afterschool special. The jokes were also on point!

This book says on the back ‘perfect for fans of The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel’ and I knew I had to have this book, is I was very grateful when Harper360ya sent me a copy. This is such an enjoyable book. It’s got everything you could want in a in a YA contemporary novel. It’s funny, it’s moving, and it’s really well written. This Will Be Funny Someday has got fantastic characters in. I loved the main character Izzy. She was brilliant. She was instantly likeable, you wanted to her to be happy and achieve all her dreams. You really felt for her at times. She’s a really complex character and I really appreciated that in a YA book. I also really loved Mo, and I really enjoyed the friendship her and Izzy had. Jonah and Will were also great. Don’t great characters just make a book brilliant?I absolutely loved the Stand-Up comedy element to this book. It’s so interesting. I loved seeing Izzy journey from the first time on stage, to working on her set and then getting more confident. I also think the stand-up was really well written. I imagine it was really hard to write but Katie pulls it off perfectly for me. The stand-up made me laugh out loud which is always a good sign. I will say this book definitely deals with some hard things, it deals with emotional abuse in a relationship, toxic relationships and sexual assault, so there’s definitely some trigger warnings for those. They are dealt with honestly and its really powerful and emotional to read. It also makes you really feel for Izzy. I also just need to point out how much I enjoyed the fact that there wasn’t a romance in this book. It was so refreshing to read Izzy finding her passion and working towards, it was super inspiring to read. It’s all about Izzy finding her voice and speaking up in every way fo her life and I really loved this aspect.I will say the only thing I didn’t enjoy about this book was all the lying Izzy did. I understand why she had to lie at the beginning, but as they continue it just becomes annoying. Especially as she is lying to her friends, and we as a reader knew how it was going to end so it was just a little bit tedious. I definitely recommend this book. It was really enjoyable, and it wasn’t like anything I’ve read before. A brilliant YA novel. Thank you to harper360ya for gifting me with a copy of this book in return for an honest, unbiased review. It’s out February 18th in the UK
