I didn’t expect anything more than a silly, cheese, sweet highland romance story, but this was a surprise!
I loved the story of both Callum and Kate. How much was between them and slowly they heal and forgive and learn to love each other. There were pages when my eyes were full of tears. My heart felt tight for their sorrow and had unknowingly smiled with them when they were happy. I would recommend this book for sure!

Oh I loved this one! It’s a story of hope, forgiveness, healing with all the feels… and happily ever afters!

“But I’ve come tae accept that if I waited tae love someone until they were perfect, I’d ne’er love anyone at all. Love is simple. We make is more complicated than it needs to be. Love is brave. And bold. It provides no guarantees. True love gives, without expecting anything in return. But it is a beautiful thing Kate. When ye learn tae love someone in all their imperfections, only then will your heart truly be full.”

“A husband who had made a grave mistake, yes, and one with real and lasting consequences, but that was not who he was. That one mistake did not define him. He was so much more than the choice he made long ago. He was imperfect, yes. But she could love him despite those imperfection. She loved him, all of him, wholly and unconditionally.”

My experience with this book is the constant feeling that I have already read it, which sums up the story's plot. Two people in an arranged marriage both have heavy baggage. Kate's grandfather is dying and Callum hates his father for manipulating every single thing about his life. The two are separated and later on decided to make their marriage work.

The plot is very familiar but the writing is beautiful and suits the tone of the setting. I really didn't connect with any of the characters to root for them but I like reading about the journey of their relationship. Despite not having smut there is a buzzing sexual tension between the two which could be credited to the writing. The truth is I still think that Callum's longing for Kate is inauthentic, I expected that in the four years that they are separated he would feel more distant as the time passes. Sure he may think of her abstractly but to the point of missing her despite only spending almost 2 days together is a bit of a stretch. What I needed was a point in the letters to point out that explicitly says he is forgetting her because of the time spent away from each other. So that it feels more like they are building a relationship together the first time rather than reconciling.
hopeful reflective medium-paced

For too long, I thought books like this weren't worth my time. I thought they would be full of stale plotlines and lack depth of character development. I'm so grateful I was wrong. This sweet romance felt fresh to me--a second-chance romance between husband and wife. Both main characters have their own hurdles and concerns (some to do with the romance and some completely unrelated). There was a richness to this story along with the slow-burn elements that I love. The setting in the Scottish Highlands was lovely (though I wish it were just a little more immersive in the writing, but this is me really being nitpicky). Hooray for being wrong!

“I’d come to expect that if I waited to love someone until they were perfect. I’d never love anyone at all”

I completely adore this book and it is simply not one to be missed.

It is heart rendering and emotional and I was gone from page 1. I felt Kate in all her loneliness, and her grief in wanting to be held and loved. I felt Callums bone aching despair and reveled in his growth at his realization to the hurt his actions had caused

This is not solely a romance. It is about forgiveness and healing in those who feel they do not deserve it. It is about broken vows and knowing perfect love is simply unattainable because we fall for imperfect people.

Kate is a warrior of a woman with a soft vulnerability that brings her character to life. The growth between these two characters is real and raw. The chemistry is ever present. They never act like they are supposed to because that what makes them all the more relatable. This book made me cry, warmed my heart and will forever have it’s place upon my shelves.

Heidi has created a story that is as heavy and beautiful as the highland fog itself. I was transported to Scotland without ever stepping on a plane and I hope you will be too.

Words cannot express how much I loved this book. I knew once I picked it up that I wouldn’t be putting it down again until I finished. It was the type of story that has you thinking about if for days after. This is one not to miss.

✔️Beautiful Scotland setting
✔️Arranged Marriage to second chance at love
✔️Get ready to feel all the feels in this tender romance
✔️A story of deep hurt and misunderstandings that lead to a journey of forgiveness and healing.

Loved this one - such a tender, heartbreaking story but also full of hope!

Heidi Kimball has done it again and produced one of my favorite books of 2021! This is an absolutely stunning tale of love and forgiveness. I was swept up in this story and loved every bit. I loved how the Katie and Callum grew as it progressed and how they became stronger and better. Their joy was as real so me as their pain. They were the kind of characters who jump off the pages and fill the room with their big personalities.

This is the kind of book that I want to start again the second I finish. Definitely a winner for me! I’m hoping for more books from Heidi soon! I’ll read anything she writes.

Heart in the Highlands by @authorheidikimball

I quickly and thoroughly enjoyed this novel set in Highlands, Scotland. It tells the tale of an arranged marriage that went from one of possibility to one of destruction and betrayal.

The night after their wedding, Callum leaves Kate, his bride, alone in their marriage bed as a final revenge against his controlling angry father. Wanting to distance himself from all of his father’s wealth, choices, and control, he flees to Barbados where he starts a new solitary life. For four years he is absent with no correspondence from his wife. When his father falls ill, he has no choice but to return to Scotland and rightfully take over the position of Laird.

But as in all tales of woe, the life change doesn’t stop there. He reunites with Kate, who is determined to do the right thing but whose heart is not interested. Betrayal for her was too deep to forgive.

I loved that these characters fought well - their desires, their flesh, their fears. They dealt with their own personal responses and actions before seeking unification with one another. This is something I feel humans these days are bad at.

If you love Outlander - or want to love outlander but cannot affirm the open-door romance, you’ll be glad to know this novel is squeaky clean and
