I love this author and her writing. This story just wasn’t for me.
I have been waiting for this book for sooo long and already feared I had set my expectations too high. But Heidi Kimball has written another amazing book...
You have a swoonworthy but faulty and trubled scottish hero, a carfully guarded, sassy, heroine, a beautiful scenery, clearly fully thought out side characters...

This book was AMAZING. It was so moving, heartfealt, deep, and romantic.
Katherine was strong and caring. She stood up for her loved ones and never put her needs before theirs. It showed her bravery and her heart in the way she selflessly loved.
Callum was hard to love, at first. He made big mistakes. However, his redemption arc was powerful and beautifully real and I liked him a lot!
Forgiveness plays a huge role in this book and I loved it! It wasn’t easy or immediate. Problems weren’t solved overnight and it took lots of work. It made the book feel so authentic.
This book will make you fall head over heels in love, break your heart, and mend it. All set in the stunning Scottish highlands this is one you don’t want to miss.

First, lets acknowledge that absolutely BEAUTIFUL cover that I can’t stop staring at as I’m writing this review.
Secondly, lets acknowledge the absolutely BEUATIFUL story this book holds.
Callum and Kate are these flawed souls who have hardened hearts from a mistake Callum made and grief Kate had to go through alone. Within the first few chapters I found myself captivated and completely upset at what was already happening. When things moved a few years later, I got to read a story full of raw and real commitment to fixing what was a charming beginning.
“I’d come to expect that if I waited to love someone until they were perfect. I’d never love anyone at all”
I couldn’t get enough of either of these characters and am so grateful that there’s points of view from both of them. There were many moments I loved having both sides from. My heart ached, leaped for joy, and made me feel every emotion across the spectrum. Along with the romance this was a story of forgiveness. Of a willingness to see someone at their lowest and rising together with a tighter bond. If you want to be transported to Scotland without ever stepping on a plane, if you want a romance that is engaging and tender, this is the book you need in your hands.
Overall audience notes:
- Historical romance
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses to closed door scene
- Trigger/Content Warnings: spousal abandonment, stillborn child

I can always tell I love a book when I just start binge reading, and can’t consume it fast enough. But for me, something else happens when I absolutely adore a book - I’m caught in the tension of wanting to binge read, yet not wanting it to end, so I savor every word.
That’s exactly what happened with Heart in the Highlands .. words can’t adequately describe how much I adored this book. These characters will live with me for a very long time.
Arranged marriage. Second chance. Forgiveness. Heartbreak. Hope. Healing. Vulnerability. Trust. Family. These are just some of the themes woven through this story. And, hey, a second chance romance written by one of my favorite authors, I’m gonna pick up. But this story was so rich - I was challenged as Callum and Kate learned what forgiveness really looked like and as they learned that to love someone doesn’t mean the other person has to be perfect. Not to mention, Heidi’s writing made me feel like I was transported back to Scotland.
Also, Callum was insanely SWOON-WORTHY.
Also, also, this brought me RIGHT back to the Highlands, and I am so very grateful for it.
Thank you Heidi Kimball, this book was stunning and I will now force all of my friends to read this and I will be starting a reread IMMEDIATELY.

Do you ever want to read a book simply because of the cover? That's why I wanted to be on the launch team for Heidi Kimball. I figure if someone has that gorgeous of a cover and it's set in Scotland, it's gotta be good, right?
Well, it was!
I don't know that I've ever disliked a character on the first page before as much as I did the father of one of the main characters! Callum's father was a despicable man and you learn that the moment you crack the book open.
And then the heart fluttering meeting of Callum and Katherine. MAYBE they can make this work... but that horrible father deceives him and Callum can't take it so he leaves. Without his bride. For four years! My heart broke for Katherine and I was so mad at Callum!
The rest of the story was rather bittersweet. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I cared about the characters and my hope for reconciliation. I could feel Kate's anger and Callum's anguish through the story.
I enjoyed the Scottish accent in the story and it lent to the setting! It was overdone or obnoxious which I was thankful for. I could also sense the physical setting with the weather. I can understand why they were always seemed to have plaid around!
As for the romance in the story, grab your fans because it's there and it'll make your heart pitter patter. Thankfully this is clean fiction so nothing inappropriate. Of course, it's helpful when the couple is married for those cute moments to happen. Their flirting right after the marriage was really adorable.
There's not a faith element to the story and I never saw any reconciliation between Callum and his father. I was bummed about that, but I know not every relationship can be restored. There are secrets that come to light throughout the story and it all helps bring everything full circle. Hurt can do a lot to a person and we see that in action through the characters in the story. Forgiveness also goes a long way as well.
*I received an ARC for review. This is my personal opinion.

I didn’t even read the book description, I just dived right in because the cover was so beautiful.
This was a sweet book about an arranger marriage between a gently-bred English woman and a Scottish heir to a dukedom. I know my description sounds super trite, but this book was so much more. The two MCs both had a lot they had to work through.

What do I even say about a book that is in my top 3? Stunning. Beautiful. Heart wrenching and heart warming. A must read.
Heart in the Highlands is such a stirring book. It has moments of beauty within sorrow and love in anger. One of my favorite moments is when one of the characters (as to not give spoilers) talks about what love really is. They say that if they waited for someone to be perfect before they loved them, love would never happen.
I wanted to hate Callum so bad, but it was not possible. He had a lot to learn, but he knew that of himself. Callum knowing his flaws and admitting them made me love him. Kate has such a large capacity to love, but she has to learn how to forgive and move forward with trust in love. I found myself cheering for them every step of the way. I hope we also get to see Charlotte in a future book. That would be just the icing on the cake.
I cannot wait to read more from Heidi. I have enjoyed her books thus far and can't see that changing anytime soon.
5 Stars across the board! You will not want to miss this book.

Guys. All the heart eyes for this Scottish Regency-flipping-masterpiece! I simply sunk into the beautiful prose, romantic settings, and flawed yet wonderful characters that Heidi Kimball has created. She outdid herself.
The Scottish brogue has always gotten me. I just love a book with Scottish characters, or with a character with the accent. Sign me up for all of that. This book has so much more though. It’s a second chance love story, but is the kind of love that is hoped for and yearned for. And needs to be earned. The energy and chemistry between the two main characters is palpable!
I loved Katie, she is such a ray of sunlight and a steadfast & caring woman. Role model alert! Callum has his work cut out for him after making a huge mistake, and I gotta give it to him, he puts in the work. When his true nature shines through he is a pretty incredible guy. Man. Guy-Man.
Basically, if you love Regency or historical romance, or Scottish heroes, get the hence and purchase yourself a copy of this book, at once! Make HASTE!

How do I even begin to describe what I just read? This isn't your average arranged marriage and growing to love each other. There is attraction and love but also gut-wrenching pain and fear. When Callum leaves Kate it leaves a hole and a lot of questions. Their journey in coming back together, learning from their mistakes, and finding forgiveness and trust was so heartfelt. The beautiful way this story was weaved gave me all of the emotions. Even when I thought things were coming together nicely a truth is revealed that fully let out the tears. I love how deep we got to know each character. It was definitely an emotionally charged read.
