I watched the book before this movie and enjoyed this one more. I liked the sibling and family dynamics of both Sophie and Howl.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and am really looking forward to continuing with the Howl Series. Like many others my first exposure to this story was by watching the Howls Moving Castle film not realising that it was originally based on Jones' book. I then of course had to read the novel and was surprised and delighted by how different it was from the film. For one thing there was more characters, for another their personalities and backstories were more fleshed out and overall stronger. So much happened in such a seemingly short story and there was so much foreshadowing cleverly introduced and interwind throughout the story. It took me a while to get used to Jones' writing style but as soon as I did I became very invested in the story and the characters. This book is so magical and the twists were fantastic, I would definitely recommend!

I’ve watched the Studio Ghibli film several times, but somehow missed the boat on reading this book when I was younger… so this was my first read! It’s lovely, but I wish 10 to 14-year-old me could read it. Alas.

"Annoyed?" said Sophie. "Why should I be annoyed? Someone only filled the castle with rotten aspic, and deafened everyone in Porthaven, and scared Calcifer to a cinder, and broke a few hundred hearts. Why should that annoy me?"
Miluju "He was no fun at all to bully" Sophie.
Getting into Mrs Fairfax's conversation was rather like getting into a turning skipping rope.
Michael má velice Carry on Shepard vibes. "I went in, and there was Calcifer, and I started talking to him because I'd never met a demon before."
