Knowing the story of Dr. Linda Hazzard and the two Williamson girls before reading this, I thought I knew what I was in for in terms of story and while it talks of Dora and Claire's nightmare in Olalla as I have read and even better written than I heard previous have heard. Then the story really goes places. A court drama unlike anything I had read before, tales of scandel, more murders and a true portrait of a killer doctor that reads at time like horror, it's not a story to be ignored. A truly deep and engrossing crime story that will stay with me long after I have moved on.

Packed with detail but the narrative also flows nicely. Such an interesting topic; I actively resented having to tend to real life while I was reading this one.

Flew through the first half, the second half took me a bit longer, but still really enjoyed it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advance copy of the Starvation Heights audiobook.
This true crime novel is about the wealth sisters Claire and Dora Williamson that seek out Dr. Linda Hazzard to heal them of their ailments. They undergo an extreme regimen of fasting and invasive procedures only further deteriorating their health, resulting in Claire’s death. Dora is then on a mission to retrieve belongings and justice for her sister after being rescued. The premise of this novel was indeed interesting, I had never heard of this before coming across this title. I would recommend it to fellow readers

The story is interesting but it feels like there's too much flowery description that doesn't add anything. A bunch of Filler with little substance.

I have a booktube channel now! Subscribe here.
Great story, not particularly well written.
I wish we knew more about the ‘doctor’s’ inner self and motivations.

Bahaha, oh this is rich. What a wild story! I love “local” history. The book starts off a little rough (the writing in the opening made me consider setting it aside), but once the story gets going, you’re off to the races. I don’t think this book appeals to everyone. Without the local context of places and geography, it would be easy to get lost in names and details. That said, the story and the personalities are vivid. I also find the pervasiveness of these ideas (fasting cures, etc.) interesting. Was Hazzard the Goop of her day? People are always the same - which is both comforting and disquieting! Final comment: the vanilla bottles!!
