As I continue my Telgemeier reading along with my daughter, this was another fun read, although I had enjoyed Guts more than this one overall. When I read most of it, the lighting was so dim and my eyesight is perhaps so poor that I didn’t know that there was a difference in page color for the flashbacks. I kept thinking to myself that they made sense to me but could be confusing to students. When I picked it up to finish with better lighting, the yellow pages for the past was awesome to discover! I must say that it was not the depiction of sisterhood that I expected but I also appreciate that it’s not such a storybook version since it is probably more realistic and relatable for siblings who perhaps never get along perfectly.
This graphic novel tells the story of Raina becoming a big sister and the difficulties she has dealing with younger siblings. The focus is on a road trip they are taking with Mom, and there are flashbacks to the younger siblings births and incidents in their childhoods.
Good for middle grade. Cute drawings and storyline shows great understanding of siblings.

A little too pat/cliche. Siblings arguing, jealous, knowing buttons to push. Expected more after reading Smile.
Anyone with siblings can probably relate to this book. This book mostly takes place over one family (Mom, Telgemeier, sister, and brother) summer road trip. It explores the family relationship, specifically the dynamics between Telgemeier and her sister Amara. However, this book is also about how being a early teenager is difficult, especially if you are the oldest one in the family. When Telgemeier gets to her family reunion, she experiences a shock when her cousin that she once skated with has other interests than being with her. Telgemeier throws her stuffed animal, experiments with make-up, and tries to find a place where she fits and then ultimately realizes perhaps there isn't one. I am sure that there are parts of this book that many readers can relate too. What I really like about this book is that the color of the pages are different when Telgemeier is writing a flashback. It is a quick cue to the reader that a page is taking place in the past. I recommend this book to anyone with a sibling or preteens/teens. Good, quick read.
i love the western america backdrop- very nostalgic. the story is both humorous and gently poignant. very lovely
As the oldest of four, 3 girls and 1 boy, I really connected with this story. The love/hate relationships, the long family car rides, it all was perfect and so true!
Enjoyable, but not my favorite title by Telgemeier. Tweens/young teens will love it though.
