This was cute but I didn't enjoy it as much as some of Abbi Waxman's other books. The quirkiness and eccentricities of so many characters felt a little forced. But it was still sweet and funny and I love that she incorporates characters from her other books. If you are looking for a light and fun book, this is for you. Thanks to Goodreads for the ARC.

Great, lighthearted read
So I adored this book in its own right - like all Waxman novels, it was warm-hearted and funny and populated with a lovable cast of characters. But the fact that Abbi Waxman brought back Nina, filled me with delight. I feel such an affinity with her. I also am never happier than when sorting my books - see quote below!:
"They were sitting on the floor in Nina's apartment, and Nina was sorting books. She'd sorted her book twenty-nine times, each time slightly differently. This time was was sorting by both author and historical chronology...she was happy as a toddler with a stir stick."
Me too, Nina. Me, too.

I love Abbi Waxman! I first feel in love with her Novel “The Bookish Life of Nina Hill”. And this book also did not disappoint.
Laura has a lot going on in her life when she accidentally ends up at Knights bookstore where Nina and Polly work. She is in need of a place to stay before school starts and Polly invites her to stay at the home of a women she rents a room from. Maggie is the Land Lady and after having her children move out of her large home rents rooms to those who need a place to stay instead of living alone. Laura doesn’t know at the time that this is just what she needs as she starts her new life in LA. She makes her own friends, overcomes her fears, and develops something with her next door roommate Bob. Laura learns that life is messy, especially as an adult, but with the right people beside you can make all the difference in the world.
I loved how Laura progressed through this book. I love that it was laughable and quirky. Abbi Waxman has a unique style of writing that works!

I'm not sure that I've ever read a character that I dislike as much as Nick. As I'm reading, Nick needs to go NOW! My heart is hurting for the way that Laura struggles to defend herself. Abbi Waxman is always a great read, and this was no different. It was fun to visit the world of Nina Hill again. Always well written and comforting to read.
Finally finished this up for November book club. Which is meeting Monday.
Laura has moved from NYC to LA to pursue a master's degree and ends up finding a new, welcoming group of weirdos who become like family as well.
I really liked Nina Hill, so when I saw this was a sequel of sorts, I was excited and snatched it off the shelves of our new bookstore at their soft opening. Y'all, I'm disappointed. I don't remember Nina having an omniscient narrator like this (though its been over two years since I read it) and it was so jarring to be taken back and forth between characters, sometimes jumped around the room every paragraph. Though the animals' thoughts were amusing.
The narrator, and sort of the characters, were so pleased with themselves and how damn quirky they were. It was almost too much. I liked Polly and Nina and kept reading to see more of them, but Laura is not like other girls, you guys! She's tall! She's beautiful but doesn't know it! She plays basketball BUT ONLY CALLS IT HOOPS! She likes sports and is incredibly knowledgeable about it! She has these odd mental images she does about her muscles (which...ok?)! She's passionate about her work! She has a family that doesn't get her! Her traumatic accident makes it hard for her to do stuff!

I'm new to Abbi Waxman's literary world but I was so charmed by this read! I finished in about a day as it was so hard for me to put it down haha it is a slower paced "slow burn" read but I was intrigued by all the characters. I'm excited to read her other titles and fully immerse myself into this LA crew's world!! Kind of reminded me of a snippet of a modern day "Friends" group set in LA.
I also don't like LA at all and have a lot of driving anxiety so I related to Laura on that. This book softened me to the people and landscape of LA, almost made me want to drive in to the city for fun.
