3.7 AVERAGE

I made it 39% into the book and could NOT, for the life of me, give a single, solitary crap about any of the characters. I can’t even get their names to stick in my head. The main female character was whiny and awkward and sssssssooooooooo boring.

Bob? I think that’s his name - he was painfully boring too. And awkward. And lame.

I liked another book by this author but this one is ROUGH. I very rarely DNF a book, but this one earned it.

I really enjoyed this book about Laura who moved to LA from NY. She finds herself in disarray and is taken in and welcomed by some women in a bookshop (Nina’s bookshop for those who read the Bookish Life of Nina Hill). From there she finds a place to live, friends and a love interest, Impossibly handsome Bob. I loved the characters, especially Polly! Hope there is another spin off like this was of Nina Hill who was a small character in this book, but the references to the previous book were perfect.

Solid 4.75 for me. I just love this author’s books. I always enjoy the characters and there is always a sentence that just speaks to me. They also usually have a character with some sort of anxiety issue and since that’s a big part of me, I feel understood when I read her books.

Awesome!!!! Some of the characters from Bookish Life of Nina Hill carry on in this story, plus a bunch of new ones. Great story.

This…missed the mark. I went the audiobook route and didn’t care for the random POVs that happened constantly. One minute Laurs is talking about how attractive Bob is and the next Bob is thinking the same thing but they…only kiss once? How many months go by here and we don’t get ANY sexual tension? Ugh.

Why is Laura roped into trivia? Why is her family so horrible? The whole love story took so long to develop. And Laura drove- yay! So happy for her. But all that and she went to the WRONG AIRPORT? Sigh.

I would have also appreciated some body positivity when Laura was “describing” herself- all we heard about was how hot Bob was and Laura’s character just got that she likes to run and hates her body. Oh and she is tall! Phew. Learned a lot. Liked Nina Hill way better.

A weak 3. I’m bummed. I wanted this to be as good as Nina. It had some highlights and good lines, but…not the strongest from AW.
