Hills of Shivers and Shadows is an addictive, psychological, dark romance, book one of the Frozen Fate trilogy. Multi-first-person POV told in stunning detail with depth and emotion, this book shines on its own while simultaneously setting up the rest of the series.
I truly don't think anyone but Pam Godwin could have told this story. It's dark, heavy, deadly, thrilling, and perfectly paced with tension, mystery, chemistry, emotion, and titillating intimacy. Extreme conditions, both physical and mental, bring our MCs through unimaginable circumstances, creating a compelling story that will truly leave you speechless.
Book one ends on a cliffhanger, and if you're anything like me, you'll want to be sure you have book two on hand, stat. I highly recommend going in with as little information as possible, so I've kept my review intentionally vague, though I do also recommend checking trigger warnings on Pam's website. There are spoiler-free and full lists available!

I'm not even sure how to write this review because I don't have words and also I believe going into this book blind is the best possible way. I had NO idea what this book was about except that it was a why-choose... that's it and I have no regrets. I will say this, this is a DARK psychological thriller that will leave you in shock. The plot twists I didn't see coming, the secrets and lies that were kept that are revealed but also leave you with more questions. This isn't a sweet romance story, it's brutal and savage and these men will do anything to survive. This book isn't short, she's a big book and I read it in a couple of days because I literally couldn't put it down. I threw my kindle a few times, I was questioning my sanity. This book makes you feel everything. Pam did such an incredible job bringing these characters to life and just feeling everything they were feeling. I can't tell you how many times I've cried reading this book and the cliffhanger?? I balled like a baby. I kept saying "what is happening right now." I can't wait to start book 2 because I NEED to know where things go with these characters and what's going to happen. I would 1000% recommend this book! I have a feeling this is going to be ONE of my favorite series for 2024.

I found this book hard to rate, not because itโs not goodโฆ itโs intense, twisted, addicting, spine chilling, gut wrenching, heartbreaking, breathtaking, tragic, harsh, graphicโฆ and beautiful in its brutality.
Fair warning, itโs one of 3 and ends in a cliffhanger, and after that twistโฆ I need to know what happens next! Itโs also very heavy on some serious triggers, so please check those out.
This book had me in a chokehold, and since I went in blind, absolutely everything was a surprise. And the more I read, the more it sunk its claws into me. Pam is a phenomenal writer and this Suspense Thriller / Dark Romance is just more proof of that.
Whatever youโre thinkingโฆ thatโs NOT it! Itโs one heck of a mindf*ck! And yes, Iโll recommend it a million times over.

4.25 Some parts got repetitive however there is so much going on within this book that itโs near impossible to stop reading. I am already curious what the audiobook sounds like. Now Frankie is equal parts great and a dumbass
Where do I begin? This book is dark, emotional, and raw. It has elements of suspense, but definitely not a thriller. The romance is somewhat in taboo with the multi family lovers. Also, this was a very sad and difficult story to read. It deals with rape and incest and molestation in detail. I found it difficult to get through.
Ive tried this book twice now and again I just couldnt finish. I got to chapter 30 , but its so slow - s0 many people talking and no fun dark stuff to grab your attention, at least not so far. I wont finish series.

This book pulled so many emotions out of meโconflicted, shocked, homicidal, repulsed, heartbroken, hopeful, and sorrowful. More than anything, I felt an overwhelming need to reach through the pages and hold the characters close. Oof, this was a dark doozy.
Objectively, Pam told this story masterfully, with no bars held. The narration was impeccable as well, perfectly cast to bring these intense moments to life.
