CWs: predatorial relationships, substance abuse, infidelity

Did I finish this book in under 48 hours? Yes. Did I love it? No.

Was the narrator likable? No. Was she intriguing and super fun to watch crash and burn? Yes.

Was the ending satisfying? No. Was the rest of the book? Oh, yes.

This is a solid page-turner with a tad bit more sex than your average thriller. That's all.

This book was extremely captivating.

The story follows life in a small town in East Texas where the main character, Sophie, returns to after moving away in high school. Now married to her husband, Graham, and having a 3 year old son, Jack, Sophie was looking for relaxed small-town life to raise her family. She quickly discovered that the small-town life she thought she wanted was boring and felt trapped.

Along comes Margot Banks, one of the richest moms in town, and her group of friends: Tina, Callie, and Jill. Together these 4 moms form “The Hunting Wives”, which is what they call themselves because of their Friday night tendencies to go to Margot’s lake house, drinking and skeet shooting. Sophie is invited into the group and becomes quickly infatuated with Margot.

Soon after Sophie joins The Hunting Wives, people connected to the group turn up dead, and many suspect her involvement. Their suspicions are confirmed when her prints are found on the murder weapon, but Sophie is innocent.

The book leads up to the unexpected answer to the big question: Who is responsible?

The characters in this story are all flawed, and the MC makes so many dumb decisions but overall it was still very enjoyable.

I read this book entirely in one day. It’s an extremely character driven story, and I found Margot to be captivating and could not stop reading about the crazy nights The Hunting Wives would have each weekend. I 100% recommend this book. It was both entertaining and thrilling to wonder who was responsible for the murders!

Good, compulsively readable thriller with a satisfying ending. Unnecessarily vulgar at times with heavy, heavy drinking throughout, though.

If I could give this -100 stars, I would.  I try my best to never DNF a book, but this book made that feel impossible every step of the way.

Warning!: age gap relationships, adultery, murder, drugging, and mentions of abortion.

This was not what I thought it would be. I thought it would be a fun, fast-paced thriller, which it was, but not until closer to the end of the book. Mostly 'The Hunting Wives' was basically house wife drama. One thing people should know before jumping into this book is that two women end up having sexual relationships with 17-year-old kids. So if you don't like that, you probably shouldn't read this book. Other than that, I ended up enjoying the book, and it slightly reminded me of Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. But just slightly.

I didn’t like a single character in this book. Not one. & especially not the main character, not in the beginning, middle, or end. The only reason I’ll give it 2 stars is because the mystery did have my guessing a little bit but I rolled my eyes at least twice a chapter.
