I have watched countless times The Legend of Tarzan and was a little bit obsessed with it 2-3 years ago, played by Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie and so having found this little gem and reading it felt nostalgic. It was a short, fun, cute, little read. Ughh love me some Tarzan please. Can go all night long, me Jane you Tarzan just far away from this new toxic generation.
This book is exactly what I was needing at this moment. It was fun, light and very heartwarming.
Thorne was the perfect contemporary version of Tarzan. Young, impressionable and fiercely protective of his family, I don't blame Eden for falling for falling for this man as quickly as she did. I loved how he communicated with all the animals in the jungle and especially how he cares for his gorilla family. I found Eden a great match for him. Naturally empathetic and curious, she instantly found Thorne intriguing. I suppose anyone would in her situation. I love how she was such a great support system for Thorne and pushed him to live his life to the fullest while not sacrificing his noble and wild sides. She encouraged him to straddle both worlds and that is was possible to do so. Yes, the book was a little too insta-lovey for my tastes but I got over that really quickly. The characters and story were just too endearing for those kinds of criticisms.
Overall it was a quick, fun and enjoyable book with lots of heart and a great message. I read the last page with a huge smile on my face as I said before, it was exactly the book that I needed at this moment.

The writing was pretty bad - too much telling and not enough showing. The romance had very little chemistry.
Ok.
Lots to say, not much of it good.
I started with a 2.5 star review, but as im typing this I think I am bumping it down to 1.5 stars.
I was really hoping that this would be a nouveau retelling of Tarzan, one that I could read while listening the the Phil Collins album that slaps wayyyy harder than it needs to and that I would be happy to have on my kindle app.
I DID like all things jungle related in this book. I thought the poacher story line was well done and I liked seeing Thorne being the king of the jungle with his animal friends and being an overall badass. BUT, that's about all I liked about this book.
WRONG. I was WRONG.
I had to force myself to finish it, only because I love Tarzan was I even able to do so.
I ended up skipping the romance/intimate moments altogether (which is absolutely unheard of in this household). They were so cheesy, I could have made fondue with them.
The problem with this book was unbelievable content, insta love (literal love, not just attraction) and immature writing.
My main complaints are as follows:
- Do not tell me, that this man is a jungle living virgin who has never seen a human female in his entire twenty some odd years on this earth and within 3 days he is AND I QUOTE "a masterful lover". There's no way, you can not convince me of it. NOT EVER. He managed to hold out his big O, give her a simultaneous O and 8 her puśšÿ like he had been doing it his whole life. AFTER A WEEK. So no, no thank you to that.
-This man speaks literal gorilla. He hasn't spoken English fluently since he was three years old. He has 110% missed the window of opportunity for language learning. So I found it very hard to read this book, almost solely because Thorne was able to have full conversations, with complete sentences, in proper structure and with a wide vocabulary. I hated everything about it. Like a week later, he is using words like "weary" and "cherish" in a sentence. Bro, where did you learn those.
- His uncle wants to make him Earl of the Manor? BRUH, HE DOESNT EVEN KNOW MATH.
However, he could count to twelve when he was sizing up his enemies. So maybe he does. Who knows, reality doesn't seem to apply in Emma Castle's version of the universe.
- Thorne left the civilized world (albeit unwillingly) at the age of three. THREE. I don't know about you, but I can't remember shit from when I was three years old. I also wasn't traumatized from seeing my parents being murdered right in front of me and then being taken in by a troupe of Gorillas. So I find it hard to believe that he was having flashbacks from when he was a child of all things European.
- Last thing I promise: MAGIC. MAGIC FOREST. MAGIC TREASURE. THRONE HAS JUNGLE MAGIC.
It was a terrible addition and completely unnecessary.
UGH
This review was far more scathing than I meant for it to be, but I really didn't have a lot of great things to say about it. I was incredibly disappointed, I have only read one other Tarzan retelling, and had high hopes for this one. I think Tarzan is a really cool concept to base a novel on. However, this book felt like the author was writing an essay for school, and changed just enough of her friend's homework that she couldn't get caught cheating by the teacher.
Even Phil Collins couldn't make this read any better.

This deserves the hype surrounding it.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from a modern Tarzan retelling but this totally surpassed my expectations.
I love how the author clearly did her research and doesn’t feel preachy. Everything ties together and the story has a satisfying conclusion.
The characters are also done really well. Thorne and Eden stole my heart instantly. I also enjoyed Thorne’s parents, his friends and the animals.
100 % would recommend to anyone.

rating is still tbd but i’m thinking somewhere between 3 to 3.75 stars?
i’ve never read a book like this one so i ripped through it in less than twelve hours. it kept my attention, but unfortunately the only part i really cared about was the romance between thorne and eden (

Despite the low rating, it's a five star for me! I just love the settings, the innocence, the magic and our tarzan boy, Thorne! Who doesn't love Tarzan!? Oh and the book cover *sigh* perfect..

The romance was so innocent but steamy hahaha, loved it. I'm so in the mood for swoony and sweet read. I wish the book was longer. This tarzan retelling is satisfying and captured my heart again.

Do you ever watch Disney's Tarzan movie and think "Man, I really want to read a romance on this premise but with more kissing"?
If so this is the book for you.
It was exactly what my heart wanted. Feels like a real Tarzan retelling but as an adult romance. Enough similar to the story that it feels like a retelling and enough different that it tells it's own story and has it's own twist. I am so happy I read this. I may need to add it to my physical collection too

Castle is a decent writer but you have to suspend all disbelief to get through this book. Amazing narration though.
