High Stakes & True Love

The second book in Amber Belldene's Blood Vine Series, Blood Entangled picks up where the first book, Blood Vine, left off. To save their dying race, vampire vintner Andre and his family continue their work to create and distribute the cure--their special wine. Meanwhile, their enemy, the fanatical and racist Hunters attempt to thwart them at every turn, using despicable, deadly methods. And through it all…love happens.

Kos and Lena are the stars of this second installment in the series. Rejected by Andre as his blood servant, Lena seeks a new home where she can nurse her emotional wounds and build a new life for herself. Andre’s son, beta hero Kos lends her a sympathetic shoulder to cry on and soon they discover a chemistry of their own. Despite their attraction, events and their own beliefs and politesse toward each other (sorry, no spoilers here) conspire to keep our lovebirds apart. Their internal anguish, written so beautifully by the author, kept me turning pages and rooting for them both to get their love act together.

As with the author’s first book in the series, the secondary characters play pivotal roles and their stories are as riveting as that of Kos and Lena. My favorites, Pedro and Lucas, receive a fair amount of screen time and engage in some seriously steamy scenes. The author also set them up with a major conflict: Lucas is a reformed Hunter and Pedro a newly turned vampire. Can their love overcome their differences? Read the book to find out.

Blood Entangled offers up a lush California wine country setting, a vampire world rich with Croatian culture and vampire/Hunter history, well written and hot love scenes, and a high-stakes plot that will suck you into Belldene’s world and leave you wanting more. Fortunately, there’s a third book in the series.

Recommended reading order:
1) Blood Vine
2) Blood Entangled
3) Blood Reunited

I would really say a 4.5, but I'm going to round up. It's only fair because I could not put this book down.

My crazy self accidentally read this book first. I don't know how I made that mistake, but I did. I kept thinking to myself, "Self, it seems as though you are missing something important." And my self was. Oops.

Here's the deal: Belldene has taken vampires and made them her own. These guys speak a Croatian dialect, and one of my favorite parts of the book was learning some VERY interesting phrases in Croatian. Also, they own a vineyard--not just for fun but because they've grafted plants from the homeland with a California variety and come up with a cure for their wasting disease. A significant chunk of the book revolves around bringing this wine to the market to help other vamps suffering from the disease.

For the most part, this story centers on Kos and Lena. Lena had the hots for Andre, but he's head over heels for Zoey. She doesn't want to be anywhere near him but the Hunters, mortal enemies of the vampires, want to kill her--or do worse. Kos has always had a thing for her, but he doesn't believe in true love thanks to some very unfortunate events with his mother.

All of this could've become very melodramatic, but Belldene handles the story well. She has a side story between Pedro and Lucas that is quite intriguing as well as some shocking news about Bel and Uta. Ethan Bennett makes a terrifying enemy just as Kos's "friend" Mason plays an antagonistic part.

I mean, I got frustrated with both Kos and Lena from time to time, but the truth of the matter is that Belldene kept me turning pages to find out what would happen next. Oh, and don't shy away from this one if you're tired of vampires. Belldene handles her world building very well and brings something new to the concept.

This book is a follow on to "Blood Vines" which covers the story of Andre and Zoey. If you have read this one, youll notice that the first 10-20 pages cover the time in the first book where Lena goes to stay at Kos's place after leaving the estate -but from Lena's POV instead of Andre an Zoeys.

Lena has had a rough time. She thinks her destiny is to serve vampires, as it has been in her family for generations. She happily provides blood, but it is widely known that blood and sex go together, but Andre doesn't want Lena in that way, which leads to her admitting she cant stay.

Kos (Andre's son) has always had a soft spot for Lena, and its nice to watch their relationship progress - of course its no smooth sailing, in fact pretty damn rocky in places but a good read!

We also fin more about Pedro and his strange love/hate relationship with Lucas (the ex vampire hunter). Alot of issues to be dealt with!

And of course, the Vampire hunters havent given up on their attack. Ethan Bennett (Lucas's older brother) is given a whole new side which was really well written as you cringe and feel actual repulsion for this guys way of thinking...!

Something is coming together with the history of the Hunters and the Vampires. Lucas draws pictures from the book he remembers as a child, unbeknownst to him that Ethan is eagerly trying to translate the book to see if there is a key to destroying the Vampires....i don't think this history is as clear cut as it seems and its left it great for another book leading off.

Another good read, that i read in one sitting and again, for adults eyes only.

Overall Series Rating: 4 Stars

This is a series review!!!

I got these books from the author, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side.

Firstly I would like to thank the author for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing these books.

Well, I'm going to express my thought on the whole series in one review because that will help me to pull up everything that I want to say.

Okay, firstly coming to the plot, I really liked it and also liked the story line. The interesting plot twists made the read an intriguing one and also it developed an unique kind of excitement and didn't let me let go in the middle, so I read all 3 books in a go.

Secondly I liked the characters very much and I liked the way the author brought in front of us the various aspects of the characters' personality and life as well and it gave a detailed and an inner view about this whole book. There is action, romance, passion and a gripping suspense and heart-wrenching mystery that would definitely give you a mini heart-attack. So be careful!!!

I loved the writing style of the author, its utterly comfortable and I felt at easy while I read these books. So over all a great series that I would definitely like to recommend to others and I hope that you guys will like it too.

I really enjoy the arc of the storyline for this series, but I wish the heroine here was a little less weepy. She's an interesting character with a fleshed-out background, but she's crying in about 70% of her scenes (or so it seemed to me). This almost lessens the emotional impact when she undergoes more traumatic experiences.

Besides this complaint, the novel was difficult to put down and I'll definitely be finishing the series to see what happens to the crew.

For book two, Blood Entangled, you definitely want to have read Blood Vine. You don’t HAVE to read the first, but I think it would be very confusing and you’re introduced to most of the characters in book one also. It’s almost seamless from Blood Vine to Blood Entangled but the second is just as good as the first. But Lena and Kos have a completely different set of issues to get through than the first couple. Plus quite a bit from Blood Vine to deal with as well! And this was handled wonderfully.

And at the beginning of Blood Vine I didn’t even really like Lena! So much happens with her and between her and Zoey and Kos that by the end of book two I really liked her. But Bel and Kos were just as fun. They came out with stuff that just had me sitting there laughing in unbelief. I mean, why would vampires have to be stuck up ALL the time anyway, right?!

“Damn, it’s good to see those mofos,” Bel said, laughing.

But my favorite character was Pedro. That guy!! He is just so lovable!

Pedro said, “Ladies, let’s focus on the important things. You’ll never get old and you get to have super-hot bitey sex all the time.”

I haven’t read many vampire paranormal romances lately but this one is definitely one of my new favorites. The writing was fabulous and I am hoping that Amber is planning to continue this series. Lots of surprises in both books.

If you enjoy paranormal romance this will be up your alley. They are easy to read, fun plots that are quite heated. Definitely not for the young adult readers!

After finishing the first book, I could only wait a few days before a gave in and bought the second book because the story was so stuck in my head, I was thinking about it a lot. I was so glad to be able to start the second book and be thrown back into this seductive world created by Amber Belldene.

Kos doesn't believe love can last a lifetime for vampires because of what happened to his mother and Andre. But when he and Lena get closer and closer he finds it hard to send her away to another household but he knows he has to for both their sakes. Or so he thinks.
Lena wants to leave Andre's household as fast as she can after all the rejections she got from him. But when she gets to know Kos more she realizes he's the one who stirs feelings inside of her but then he sends her away to the dark Mason who has even darker tastes.

Blood Entangled is mostly about Kos and Lena. I loved how Amber spread the seeds for them in Blood Vine already so that their story wouldn't come out of nowhere. I loved that.
I actually didn't expect to like this book as much as I did the previous because I didn't like Lena there but as a main character and reading her point of view I actually did like her. So surprising but great.
Kos I've always loved and he was even more amazing in this book. Although I was getting frustrated sometimes with him when he wouldn't admit his true feelings for Lena and being kind of a coward about it, I did like him. He and Lena were perfection together!
Lena and Kos being what the story really is about, Pedro and Lucas took also a huge part of the book. And I'd be lying if I wasn't secretly reading Blood Entangled exactly for them. I wanted to know where their story would go and, boy, it was so good! They're definitely my favorite couple so far. I love how this book and the series doesn't shy away from gay couples. More books should have this.
And as always the romantic scenes were scorching hot and sexy! Gotta love that.

Besides the usual characters, there were a few new and interesting ones. Gwen for example. Yeah, I did not like her. I mean, okay, she's kind of screwed up because of Mason and she doesn't know exactly how evil Ethan is but still... Then there's Uta. She was awesome. The oldest vampire the gang knows and she kicks so much butt. And she reveals of lot of pretty shocking things that I didn't see coming. I hope she'll be in the next book too. I like her. Oh and Mason. What a sick fuck he is! I got such a bad vibe from him from the beginning. Poor Lena.
And as for Ethan... He's still a motherfucking asshole. I found myself not liking reading his point of view. I really didn't want to know what the "bad guy" was up to but it wasn't as if it made the story bad. I just really dislike that guy. But overall the new characters (all of them and not only the ones I mentioned) were pretty good for the story.

If you'd ask me what book I like the best, the first or the second, I couldn't really say because I like them both just as much. Amber Belldene is such a good writer that manages to suck me into the story and that's hard to do. I need to be really hooked to like a book this much. So that says enough.
As for the next book, I'd love the story to be either about Pedro and Lucas or Bel. Bel would be an interesting character I think. There's a lot of mystery around him and with everything that got revealed... Damn!

All in all, Blood Entangled by Amber Belldene was an awesome sequel to Blood Vine. Sexy vampires, sizzling hot romance and a lot of action. What more does a reader need?
